marko Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 Decent total from England with an excellent century from Bell after replacing KP. On a side note, how much longer can we afford to give Bopara? For me, he's a serial failure. He's played 70+ ODI's without scoring a hundred, which isn't good enough in my opinion. I think Taylor should be given a crack - Lions captain, fantastic 100 the other week in limited overs cricket, can play both the holding innings and high-tempo innings.
steveherbe Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 Good point, Bell had 10 stitches in his chin after getting hit in fielding practice.
marko Posted 16 June 2012 Author Posted 16 June 2012 Good point, Bell had 10 stitches in his chin after getting hit in fielding practice. This is before the stitches - pretty decent split in his chin/jaw. https://twitter.com/JimmyAnderson9/status/213749280798806017/photo/1
TrentFox Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Just watching the ODI and saw Rob Bailey umpiring. Made me think that soooooo many ex-cricketers go into umpiring. Why don't ex-footballers do so ? I can understand top players not doing so as it would interfere with them shagging the world and sipping Margaritas ............. but surely it's a preferable choiuce for second or third division cloggers than running yet another (doomed) pub ????? (Apologies to all the Landlords on here - it was just an example)
marko Posted 19 June 2012 Author Posted 19 June 2012 I guess that players tend to go down the coaching line a bit more. Football clubs will employ a lot more coaches than cricket clubs and there are also lots of age brackets at football clubs, thus increasing the need for coaches. There's also a lot more professional football teams than professional cricket sides, so I guess becoming an umpire is an easier way to stay in the game.
marko Posted 19 June 2012 Author Posted 19 June 2012 Excellent 100 by Cook, shame he couldn't see it through.
Corky Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Eight wicket win. I think they said on Sky it's our sixth consecutive ODI series win at home. We're improving a lot in the 50-over game.
Guest MattP Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 We are a damn fine side in all forms at the minute. Real chance in 2015 you know at this rate.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Going to be a tough one day series for us i feel. Especially with no Mick Hussey.
marko Posted 24 June 2012 Author Posted 24 June 2012 20/20 at Trent Bridge today. Should be a decent contest, especially if Gayle gets his eye in.
marko Posted 24 June 2012 Author Posted 24 June 2012 What a shame - Hales out for 99 when he looked to become the first English batsmen to score a hundred in a T20.
Voll Blau Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 I think secretly he just didn't want to have to get the jug in...
purpleronnie Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 crackin match, great performance by england. I enjoy watching cricket more than football thesedays.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 June 2012 Posted 29 June 2012 Not sure why we are playing Doherty and Smith. Good to see Cummings back
marko Posted 29 June 2012 Author Posted 29 June 2012 Not sure why we are playing Doherty and Smith. Good to see Cummings back Agreed. Doherty seems pretty ineffective. Bopara just got a good bouncer.
marko Posted 29 June 2012 Author Posted 29 June 2012 I know I've harped on in the OP about Bopara, but surely it's time for Taylor to get a decent run in the side.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 June 2012 Posted 29 June 2012 With our batting line up 200 was probably enough
