Sven' Thai Bride Posted 17 August 2012 Posted 17 August 2012 Looking at the nationalities of this seasons squad, all of the first team barring Futacs and Knockaert could be classed as home-grown. Against Torquay, 11 of the 14 players used were English, and even Schmeichel and De Laet could be classed as home-grown. It will be interesting to see whether this will help team chemistry and the gelling time for the squad as a whole.

cc_star Posted 17 August 2012 Posted 17 August 2012 If everyone speaks the same language and has a friend in the squad I can't see it making too much difference. What will help is that the core have had another year together, been through disappointment together & should collectively realise they haven't made it yet & they'll get nowhere without hard work & graft. The squad has been massively thinned down, there's no rotten smell from the sidelines & we've strengthened the wing & full back as well as signed Whitbread & possibly have converted Moore to CB successfully. Everything appears to be in place for us to do well, it now comes down to the players playing for each other which didn't always happen last year, regardless of nationality.

Captain... Posted 17 August 2012 Posted 17 August 2012 We were hardly the league of nations under Sven, we had a few more Forrins, but Bamba and Abe were the only first team regulars that weren't loanees, and Bamba had been in Scotland so it was hardly being uprooted. I don't think it will harm things having players more used to these conditions and playing styles, but I wouldn't read too much into it.
Lambert09 Posted 17 August 2012 Posted 17 August 2012 I think the first 3 games will give away our chances 7 points and I feel we will get promoted. Its a great sample of what to expect, a must win home game, a tricky away fixture on a tuesday night and a game against very good quality players.

Yeah thinking about it was a pretty stupid point to make, foreign players have hardly held back Man City, and my domestic player bias on FM12 is non existent. I was just amazed at how British the squad was considering all the fuss over the amount of foreign players in the top British leagues.
Richard Posted 17 August 2012 Posted 17 August 2012 I always say look at where you are after 15 games, and you'll never be far from that in May
