I suffered from depression when I was about 18, it lasted for a couple of years! It was because of things happening in my life at the time though, I wasn't suffering for no apparent reason.

If it's because of something in your life focus on one thing at a time and try to resolve whats making you feel down. Obviously not everything in life is under your control, alot of things are though.

Not really but I have felt very down in the past, don't feel like doing stuff, can't be bothered to do stuff, and think why should I bother, I like cristism because its a way of learning but at the same time someone critisise's my work and I just think why should I bother, and it dents alot of my confidence.

My dad dies when I was a young age (9) my grandad died shortly after and didn't have a great time at school, ain't to bright but I plod along, I finished school and went on to do an apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery I got on the course but since have struggled to get jobs in the career I want to do, I got one job but they just "used" me I was working "on site" and all they wanted was a labourer, they said I would do some Carpentry work but after there busy period was over they "layed me off", I finally got my current job and I am currently happy there, I do lose my temper very very easy, I have had alot of bad things happen in my life, but I wouldn't say I have had too much bad depression...

Yeah that is true, something I have to do.

One thing I know doesn't help me is anti-depressiants, just made me feel worse <_<

Do you think depression or suicide can be a genetic thing?

137510[/snapback]

Doubt it very much. Mainly because it develops from the environment and not your genes.

Its will be your living circumstances, your general life style and maybe the group of people you see on a day to day basis. Maybe you need a change of surroundings for a few weeks. That might help. it just clears your mind.

Im no expert so i could be chattin a load of bollox and so this is just my opinion and help.

That was something I never looked into using at the time. I don't think I really understood how bad I was until I was over it to be honest.

It's suprising what a couple of changes to your life can do for you. I enrolled on a night course doing something that I thought was interesting.

Doing new things and meeting new people really helped me, it kept me busy for starters so I didn't have too much time to dwell on things. It gave me extra confidence.. and I also ended up going out with someone on the course ;) It certainly started me on the right track to getting back to how I use to feel!

On a serious note , ive never had depression really bad , i felt down when a mate of mine died last year but that made me open my eyes , i realised that life is too short for being upset and misrable because you never know what is round the corner. I now try to live life to the full and any chance i have to do something i jump at the chance now when before last year i would have simply said ' i cant be botherd ' like Hitesh said it might be the envirmoent you are in at the moment. Hope you are feeling better soon Ricey.

I would think it stems from circumstances in your environment.

Remember Ricey your never alone no matter how much you feel you are, there are people out there (sometimes in the most unlikely places) willing to listen and to help.

Try and keep your head up Ricemeister, I don't know much about depression really, but I know that you're are a very clever person and are very much valued by a lot of people I'm sure.

I'm not sure if I've been depressed before but I've had anxiety problems and lacked confidence. I still do at times but not so much now. I went to the doctors about it when I was younger but they just dismiss what you say which makes you feel even worse. It makes you think there's nothing wrong with you when there could well be. I hope you get better soon Ricey. My advice to you would be like some other people's. Get out and about, put yourself out of your way to do something you wouldn't normally think of doing and try and surround yourself with people so you're not alone. Easier said than done when you don't feel like it's worth getting out of bed in the morning. I know I don't know you but judgng by some of your creations for football games on the PC I imagine you spend quite a bit of time on the computer. I'm not saying I don't but it's not good to just sit on your own staring at a box. Try and do more social things instead where possible.

Both my parents have suffered from depression and for both, the tablets made them worse.

Talking about their feelings helped.

Like most people i felt really down at times in my childhood and as a young adult i realised that my depression stems from being in the same house all the time..

ever since i was 16 though ive been going out pretty much all the time and ive played for various football teams. I'm now a happy mouse! yes i know a lot of random shit comes out my mouth on here but i just treat it as a bit of fun rather than moan.

maybe take up a new hobby where ul meet people or take up new pastures?

Thanks everyone.

Basically I used to be a little messed up and I had all sorts of problems with school and stuff, anyway I met my girlfriend and things totally changed for me. Shes an amazing person and she has done so much for me, I started college last year which I love and it has got me loads of friends.

However recently me and my girlfriend have fallen out way too much, the slightest thing that normally wouldn't matter seems to cause a full scale arguement that will go on all night. It's made both of us very scared and vunerable.

I know we are meant for each other and I know we will work through it.

It doesn't help also that I'm on the summer holidays now so I have nothing to do all day, my girlfriend is at school and all my mates are working. I went to Lincoln yesterday and it just made me more miserable and I saw someone there I really never wanted to see again.

Thanks again for all the help.

Obviously this is easier said than done but what works for me is clearing my head as much as possible and trying not to think about the future. I always thought leaving university would be horrible but I'm happier than I've ever been because I'm trying hard to see it as a new challenge rather than the end of a time I've enjoyed. If it seems to be related to arguments with your girlfriend, maybe it would be a good idea to have a weekend away or something where you both have nothing else to think about other than enjoying yourselves?

It does hurt and your right it is something that you just can't hide and pretend everything is ok.

Must be the time of the year.

I have suffered with depression off and on throughout my childhood due to being bullied, parents splitting up etc, but the last two years for me have been the worst. Over Christmas was terrible for one reason or another and I had to go on anti- depressants, finally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, although I do have very bad days. As for it being genetic, you could have a point Ricey.

My Gran suffered from awful depression throughout her life and was finally diagnoised with schizophrena and my sister has suffered from depression also. My advice is to talk to your doctor, they may be able to help and get support from your family. Whatever you do though dont go through it alone, there are always people to help even though you dont think so at the time.

I don't know weather this may make sence or not but maybe the way you live your life or the person you are make you happy. I've never really suffered from depression, like everyone I've had times of distress but there is allways something to look foward to. Next holliday, new season, next Leicester game, next weekend etc.

I also think that things like music can influence depression. If you listen to music where the artist sings about being hurt, breaking up etc and other sad things it will probably make you feel that way.

Just appreiate life mate and live it to the max. There are millions of people alot worse of than you, life is a gift and to many people take it for granted. If ever I'm down I allways think about exicting upcoming events, like at the moment the new season and my holliday to Ibiza next week have got me really excited and keep us going through the last couple of weeks which have been a bit uneventful.
