lol Some of this shit is truly dire.

granted they are...but its based on a lot of the mod look of the 60's...never seen a clothing website where I've liked every item...so not sure what your point is...I'm sure you'd be better off at tesco.

I'm sure my clothes aren't anywhere near as nice as yours ronnie !

I'm sure they are.

Isn't that a bit like fancy dress? Do people wear this stuff ironically or is it completely serious? Really don't understand trying to dress like a certain sub-culture whether it be mod, emo, goth, whatever :S Not saying there's anything wrong with it, I just really don't get it.

You've just answered your question haven't you?

They dress like the sub culture to be the sub culture?

Goths want to associate with other goths, mods, rockers, 'Trekkies', people at 'Queen Conventions' etc....

What about City fans that wear City shirts?

I don't get it either but I've never yearned to be a member of any sub culture, or dress like them.

Not really, if its a certain style you like then its no different to any fashion, a lot of certain cuts of clothes will be generalised as mod but thats because people like to pigeon hole everything....I couldnt wear just a pair of jeans and polo shirt because everyone I see wears it I would feel scruffy so I prefer what some would percieve as smarter clothes,,,,its just what I prefer just as you don't get people wearing clothes that might be associated with certain cultures I can't understand why people all want to dress alike...

I do find it a little disheartening that until recently people would often strive to look smart to find clothes no-one else had the kind of one upmanship which i guess is looked down upon thesedays as the mass markets dictate whats fashionable....its kinda sad that anyone now who doesnt dress like everyone is often singled out for criticism whereas years ago they would be admired....it harks back to my post about the bland taking over.

Your anger towards people who wear suits to work is a bit odd. A lot of people have to wear suits or at least smart formal clothes to work. Are you bitter because you aren't smart enough to get an office job or something?

See finners explanation.

Not smart enough to get an office job lol

Personally they're the best I've found. The fact they're Egyptian cotton makes a massive difference, not in a snobby way but they hold their shape well and are generally a lot more comfortable and breathable than other t-shirts I've owned. I happened to buy one of their grey crew neck t-shirts randomly once, really liked it, so I ended up buying three more exactly the same and a few other colours because I'm always paranoid when I find clothes I really like I won't be able to find them again lol It's a very Larry David-esque thing to do.

You are talking to the man with 3 of each t-shirt he owns... so I know where you are coming from

Have any other daytime suit wearers like myself ever been in the somewhat embarrassing position of being served in a shop in preference to someone who's not so smartly attired? It's happened to me on a handful of occasions, and it's horrible - it's well embarrassing

Embarrassing? It's great.

If someone has gone of their way to notice you first because you have dressed smartly you should be pleased, shows you have pride in your appearance.

Although i do think you are being a tad snobby about the kind of clobber you like to don, it's nobody else's business or concern what other peoples styles are.

I whole-heartedly agree with the above part of your post though.

You are right. After spending all day in the same uniform young squaddies get ready for a night out and they all wear the same, jeans, tee shirt and trainers, they all look the same!

lol this thread has made me chuckle... and I thought it was difficult for us women to decide what to wear!

Just to throw my two cents in, I'd never ever go for a guy who

a) Religiously followed fashion (say, for example, an outfit which consisted of a V-neck printed t-shirt, coloured 3/4 length chinos and toms) - It makes them look arrogant and vain, I wouldnt even go there.

b) Wore anything that questioned their sexuality - I mean skinny jeans on men?! come on, since when did women want to start dating weedy skinny boys?? and when was it ever attractive for men to start showing cleavage

c) Wore trainers to a bar / nightclub - If you cant be bothered to make the minimalistic effort of wearing smart footwear on a proper night out, there is no hope for you.

so there you go.
