What sort of stuff do you wear on a night out?

Got mixed feelings really, I hate seeing so many scruffy people but if everyone dressed well it would mean I wouldnt be the best dressed person when I went out.

No mixed feelings from me, I'll leave a place if there are too many people dressed like pikeys in, unless I'm in the mood to take the piss.

I saw a man turn up to a restaurant in flip-flops once. Serious.

My mates and i did this regularly in Europe and the UK. Mind you we were on holidays and weren't bothered.

I couldn't believe it in Sydney, some in posh restaurants as well, I can understand it in Oz as the Thong seems to be a cultural thing everyone wears but over here it's not something you would wear.

If I saw it again in a decent restaurant over here I'd try to make sure they were asked to leave, removes all the class from the place.

Wouldn't do it here unless it's a low class restuarant/pub and your just after a quick bite.

Best was in South Africa 7 of us every 2nd night for 3 weeks would go to one of the best restuarants in Durban, there would be a 50m line of people in suits and cocktail dresses waiting for tables. We would rock up in shirts, thongs and t-shirts, they would clear up a table straight away for us. Each night we would leave equivelant of about $100 tip each time which to them was more like $2000.

lol That's why we have dress codes over here, can get away with anything in South Africa.

It's nothign against the item of clothing, it's just when you are out for a decent meal the last thing you want to see are someones bare feet.

Dark jeans and a t-shirt or a shirt. Pretty basic.

I'm sure all sure all guys should wear this(ish) unless they're embarking on something extremely different. If you mean 'going out' out then a suit without the tie is necessary but everyone knows when that's necessary. When it isn't then anything more than jeans and a jacket makes you look like a twat!

Would rather see a man in jeans and shirt (open collar) than a man in a suit

No I'd just rather not see some bellend estate agent wandering around in a cheap suit thinking he's some high powered business man. I go down past all the estate agent offices in town every day and they all get on my tits.

Snap, I've got navy once too. I haven't worn them for ages now though. The best shoes I currently own are a casual/formal hybrid. They look like formal brown leather shoes but with a casual plimsol-like sole.

I'm a creature of habit/OCD so if I find clothes I like I tend to buy about 4 of them. I own rather a lot of Sunspel, as they're the best t-shirts known to man! I'm wearing one now and it's like wearing a paper-thin cloud. They're also based in Nottingham I think. http://www.sunspel.com/

Those clothes has better have the best cut in the world for £45 a plain t shirt.

Yeah I don't usually agree with spending stupid money of clothes. I f**king hate overly branded clothing and I generally won't wear anything if it's logo is ridiculously splayed across it. I usually go for brands that are timeless and understated, like Sunspel or Baracuta, they never go out of fashion because they're never fully in fashion and you can wear it for the quality of the clothing without having the neon sign hanging off it telling people how much you can afford to spend on clothes.

I will freely admit I'm in a love my Baracuta G4.

Personally they're the best I've found. The fact they're Egyptian cotton makes a massive difference, not in a snobby way but they hold their shape well and are generally a lot more comfortable and breathable than other t-shirts I've owned. I happened to buy one of their grey crew neck t-shirts randomly once, really liked it, so I ended up buying three more exactly the same and a few other colours because I'm always paranoid when I find clothes I really like I won't be able to find them again lol It's a very Larry David-esque thing to do.

Your anger towards people who wear suits to work is a bit odd. A lot of people have to wear suits or at least smart formal clothes to work. Are you bitter because you aren't smart enough to get an office job or something?

He isn't bemoaning suits, he's bemoaning posing pretty boys who think they're in some slick New York drama, swanning about in hairdresser's cars wearing sleazy sunnies whilst letting out ex council houses on a street that looks like Shameless does Beirut.

Estate agents are *****, whatever your politics.

Have any other daytime suit wearers like myself ever been in the somewhat embarrassing position of being served in a shop in preference to someone who's not so smartly attired? It's happened to me on a handful of occasions, and it's horrible - it's well embarrassing

I wear a green suit for my job... I always get to the front of the queue

The snobbery you show in this thread, and then you post a website full of cheap looking shit like that.

I have the opposite problem, people think I'm a school kid in uniform, probably because as soon as I'm out the office the tie is off and shirt is untucked. It's the only reason I have a beard now, damn my boyish looks.
