foxy boxing Posted 15 April 2016 Share Posted 15 April 2016 the idiotic reporting by the prees didn't help things the majority of the fans weren't to blame, it was a catalogue of errors that led to it ,not enough thought or planning
stripeyfox Posted 15 April 2016 Share Posted 15 April 2016 The blame Has to be shared Yes the police were incompetent But the drongo drunk Liverpool fans didn't help the situation Responsibility should be shared outcome here The poor people who went to a match with a ticket and never came home were effectively slaughtered by police incompetence and idiot fans rushing gates with no tickets There can be no justice till responsibility is shared Too easy to blame the coppers ....yes they ****ed up , but they weren't the ones causing all the problems outside The police were entirely to blame. And I'm not talking about individual officers who generally worked heroically to try to save lives on the day, but the overall policing of the match. You are guilty of recycling some of the same lies that were circulating at the time (and since). There were not a significant amount of ticketless fans. Video footage from the Leppings Lane terrace shows that it was not overcrowded overall but the distribution of people in the central pens contributed to the crush. There were many opportunities to prevent the crush outside, most of which were in force in the 1988 Semi Final between the same clubs at the same venue. The fatal error was failing to close off the tunnel to the central pens before opening the exit gates. Crowds of any description can be a dangerous thing, that is why the police and stewards need to manage them effectively which they totally failed to do on the day. Blaming people for being drunk is ridiculous also. Plenty of people attend sports events and concerts after consuming alcohol - it is up to the police to safely manage this.
