Guest Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Bordeaux really is a shit hole. You think so? When did you visit? I think the architecture is fantastic and the ruver running through is beautiful. The new tram system is great too. Sure there are a few highrise blocks that I wouldn't want to live in but the City itself, with it's English history, is in my opinion one of the world's best. The new footie stadium has been long awaited though - the old one reminded me of a German war camp. What don't you like about it?
Guest Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 did I say it was?. Houston is a shit hole too....everyone seems to use that phrase to describe english towns but they are all paradise in comparison. happy? Lots of negativity. England has some wonderful towns and pretty decent Cities though with too many people in some. Love what they have done to Birmingham in the recent past.
Webbo Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Love what they have done to Birmingham in the recent past. The Luftwaffe?
sphericalfox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I was in Bordeaux today. Sorting out my son's Uni accommodation. He'll be back there next week. Soulac is a beautiful place to live. How old is your daughter and send me a private pm with a picture of your wife. Thanks. My daughter is 3yrs old, and I'm afraid there'll be no pics. My daughter speaks French, and is past me in vocab and understanding already. Some very picturesque places in and around the region, though I'm not so enamored to live there, and actually neither is my wife, she enjoys the UK.
Houdini Logic Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Bordeaux really is a shit hole. You are nuts, absolutely nuts. The city is beautiful and the region is something else.
cambridgefox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Well Montalivet - a few kms south is the nudist campsite, soulac isn't a nudist beach - although in the remoter beaches there are. Of course the beaches are topless - this is France. I like your local knowledge. I know exactly where you are,one of my best beaches is across the water at st Palais sur mer.We have stayed just outside Royan 3 times but went South this year.We might have to start a new thread at this rate.
Bayfox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Naples is a bit of a pit. This. My parents live about 2 hours south of naples and to visit you have to fly in and out of naples. Some parts are as bad as anything south american citys have to offer in terms of poverty.
Guest Col city fan Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 How has Cities in France got to Cities in Italy on a 'Cowardly scum in Leicester' thread?
Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 This. My parents live about 2 hours south of naples and to visit you have to fly in and out of naples. Some parts are as bad as anything south american citys have to offer in terms of poverty. I was stunned. I didn't expect the residential areas to live up to the touristic parts, nor the ports, but the level of poverty and deprivation really shocked me. No wonder extreme politics has such a foot hold in a country with that kind of rich-poor divide.

My sister got robbed first day in Naples, little cvnt on a moped mounted the pavement drove between her and the building side of the pavement grabbed her bag which was over her shoulder and across her body and under her coat with just a bit visible underneath the coat. Dragged her to the ground fortunately the strap snapped or she would have been dragged along the street. Nasty Naples.
cambridgefox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 How has Cities in France got to Cities in Italy on a 'Cowardly scum in Leicester' thread? I thought that and I'm making contributions to it!!I did mention that we might have to start a new thread.

Unreal. As for politics i've had a insight into how much is still under mafia control. Everthing from planning to bin collections if the mafia want to make a point. They can.

Some very picturesque places in and around the region, though I'm not so enamored to live there, and actually neither is my wife, she enjoys the UK. My youngest son is 20. Living somewhere is not simply about it being a nice place so I can understand that and the UK has a lot of positives, I feel lucky to have been able to live in both countries. I know exactly where you are,one of my best beaches is across the water at st Palais sur mer.We have stayed just outside Royan 3 times but went South this year. We might have to start a new thread at this rate. St Palais, know it well I lived in the Charente Maritime for a decade and taught at the language school in Royan for 13 years (detached from the University). Royan is okay, it's a town of old people predominantly and a seaside resort for half of the year. Very Jekyl and Hide. The beaches along the coats there are great - "la cote sauvage" really is wild. Again I don't like Royan in August, but there are a lot worse places to be. The Pineau (extra vieux preferably) is to die for, as are the Charantais Melons farmed along the Royan, Cozes road. And for Ronnie - the place is VERY unviolent, The region is great for old people and young kids, though outside of the holiday months dead for ados and 20 somethings. Soulac and the beaches over this side of the estuary are even better. Soulac is an isolated peninsular "holiday home" town - 2500 -2800 people during the year with 78,000 in August. How has Cities in France got to Cities in Italy on a 'Cowardly scum in Leicester' thread? Sorry but I think we exhausted our feelings on the incident and it was nice to change it to more pleasant discussion. I just didn't realise cities in the 1st world had people living under plastic sheets in modern times. Unreal. As for politics i've had a insight into how much is still under mafia control. Everthing from planning to bin collections if the mafia want to make a point. They can. The Mafia even has an attachment to Royan (town mentioned by Cambridge above). The restaurants were/are mafia held but it's a more restrained (inferred) mafia presence.
Guest Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 BTW I do have a couple of small houses - view of the beach for summer rental - though September is a fantastic month for quiet holidays here - as well as a couple of 2 bed flats 30m from the beach and my wife runs a little bed and breakfast too. None of the above are available to rowdy yobs though
MooseBreath Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 I just didn't realise cities in the 1st world had people living under plastic sheets in modern times. Unreal. I wouldn't describe those southern European countries as first world anymore. If it wasn't for the euro propping them up they'd be well down the list. Not sure how you'd describe them now, bit first world they are not.
