Reynard Bleu Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 http://news.sky.com/story/986584/two-policewomen-killed-in-manchester-shooting Grim news.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 My thoughts are with their families and colleagues
Lamby Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Police should of done their job properly then by providing armed police and back up if there were reports of shots fired. They can't do anything right at all.
MooseBreath Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 The shots fired were them being shot. Bit late for back up. It isn't clear yet exactly why the officers went inside the house unarmed. Surely a mistake.
Guest MattP Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Police should of done their job properly then by providing armed police and back up if there were reports of shots fired. They can't do anything right at all. How do you back up a routine check that has turned into a shooting?

acooling08 Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 This is why police officers should be armed.
MooseBreath Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 This is why police officers should be armed. This is going to be heavily debated now. Well done for getting in early
SemperEadem Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Not a chance should all police officers be armed.
Guest MattP Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 This is why police officers should be armed. Fcuk that, if they can murder protestors with batons I don't want them armed with bullets.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Police should of done their job properly then by providing armed police and back up if there were reports of shots fired. They can't do anything right at all. They were called to a 'routine incident', which given that Dale Cregan was one of Britain's most wanted men, having been involved in a 'gun and grenade murder' presumably means they didn't know he was there
ADK Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 I think i perfer our system where we have dedicated firearms officers. Less chance of an accidental/unwarrented shooting occuring. You just have to look at tasers as an example, if you give the ploice a new toy they will find an excuse to use it.
Craig Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Police should of done their job properly then by providing armed police and back up if there were reports of shots fired. They can't do anything right at all. To be fair to Lamby I read a report that said that they were called to an incident amid 'reports of shots being fired'. This report has since been changed.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Fcuk that, if they can murder protestors with batons I don't want them armed with bullets. i dont think Police Officers themselves would want to be routinely armed. Stupid comment though
Craig Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Whilst I don't think that all Police Officers should have access to firearms, I do find it odd that they don't all wear bulletproof vests. I understand that they're probably not comfortable and wouldn't stop them being shot elsewhere, but even so. They surely can't be much worse than the stabproof vests they wear? That said, RIP to the two officers, no person or family deserves what has happened today.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 I don't think I'd be unduly worried about being shot by a copper if they were all armed, but if it meant that more criminals had guns I'd be worried about that
Larry_LCFC Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Fcuk that, if they can murder protestors with batons I don't want them armed with bullets. Have some respect ! This is not the time or place for that sort of comment. Two officers have died protecting others. How low can you get!
Jaspa Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 The fewer guns on the streets the better, this is not the USA and these events are not a common occurrence The police shouldn't all carry guns, all I can say on the deceased is RIP, but I dont know a thing about them, dont think of them as angels simply for being police I see this issue will probably be used to gauge public opinion on the issues, will keep an eye on this
Tom17LCFC Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 This is why police officers should be armed. No chance mate. Very, very unfortunate incident this and condolences to their families and loved ones, but if all police officers were armed there'd be a lot more stories similar to this.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Arm the police You think that would make the country safer!? I'm telling you now if PC Plod gets a gun then I want one too. The ****ers sketch me out enough as it is. How could anyone possibly be in favour of giving the police guns after they were shown up for the corrupt state sanctioned gang that they really are less than a week ago??

MooseBreath Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Cvnt with a fair point. I wouldn't trust your average police officer with a gun either
acooling08 Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Listen, I'm not suggesting handing every police officer a gun on their way out of the station. But I don't see why, having undergone very thorough handgun training, they are not allowed to have guns. Potential criminals would respect them a hell of a lot more than they do now. I don't know why you are acting like I said something stupid, the vast majority of other countries arm their police officers. I'm only aware of China and Norway (and us) being different from the norm.

I don't think today would have made much of a difference to be honest, if you are holed up, have a position ready to shoot and release a grenade on entry and fire the coppers being armed wouldn't stand much of a chance anyway.
purpleronnie Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Thankfully its extremely rare in the UK...but very sad news.
