Rincewind Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 What kind of life? Even micro-ordanisms are a form of life. A cell is life. I am pro orbortion though because I am pro choice. I am not a woman so do not think I have a right to tell a woman what to do with their body. I think you have to turn off emotions at some poit or where do you stop? There have been more unborn geniuses than the ones that have ever lived. Countless Einsteins, Shakespeares Hawkins. Maybe the discoverer of a cure for cancer was halted by a Durex?

Zingari Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 If only they felt the same way about us but true
Houdini Logic Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 http://www.independe...by-8144448.html Not really sure what this adds to the debate to be honest
Webbo Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Not really sure what this adds to the debate to be honest Well if you're only debating when does life begin then nothing really. If you're discussing the wider abortion debate then it's questioning when how far gone can you be before you're killing a person rather than a fetus.
skinnydipper Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Apparently life begins at 40. Consequently I am nearly 8.

acooling08 Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 I think life begins when the foetus becomes comscious, aware, and be able to detect environmental stimuli like temperature.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 surely life only begins when youve watched your first City game? . . . . . . . . .
Guest Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 A 150 cell Blastocyst (ie a young embryo, shaped like a ball of cells that are yet to differentiate) is considered by the US govt and the Catholic Church to be so 'alive' that stem cell research on it is wrong, even if that research could alleviate the suffering of millions.", and despite the fact that the blastocyst has no nerves and can feel no pain or sense no consciousness. Conversely, a fly's brain has a few 10s of thousands of cells, yet most of us think nothing of swatting a fly. As such, I don't like arbitary borders being imposed. From a genetic point of view, life began once and continued, first via replication then via sexual reproduction, up to the present day, so there is no 'start' of life, it just goes on and on... Agreed. We are simply forms of energy in a closed system. an abortion is no more death than bubbles formed in a crashing wave.
flowwolf Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Agreed. We are simply forms of energy in a closed system. an abortion is no more death than bubbles formed in a crashing wave. So how come you are afraid to die if life is that cheap Mr Logic ?
Rincewind Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 The reason some Humans are afraid to die is that we have an inbuilt thought machine and we know death is inevitable. This is the same reason that religion came about so as to explain what we did not know and make dying a wonderful experience because there is something after death. Before modern day religions with the churches and rules, I think it was just the belief that we would fertilise the soil enabling other creatures to feed on us or or our thoughts living on. This is why story telling amonst tribes people was so common. Memories were passed down generation to generation. Sorry I've veered off topic slightly. There is life all around us in the air in every molecule but if a person has never been born who can say if they would turn out to be a hero or villain? We should care for the ones that are rather than the ones that could have been.

Guest Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 So how come you are afraid to die if life is that cheap Mr Logic ? I'm not afraid to die (whatever that is) and made that clear in the thread dedicated to it. Life isn't cheap, it's extremely expensive but as far as human life goes just think of it as a metamorphosis.
AyewJoking Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Am I right in saying it isnt murder if you kill a baby before its born? ( eg, punch mother in the stomach) If so, I dont know where it is acceptable to draw the line at when an unborn is aborted.

Do you mean we should all say things like : Life is like a box o' chocalates , you never know what you're gonna git . Life is a game of cards (you have to play the hand you are dealt). Life is a carousel (sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down, and sometimes you just go round and round).
Rincewind Posted 20 October 2012 Posted 20 October 2012 We are just a speck of sand in the vast universe desert.
