Mark_w Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 7/12, I wonder if Gavin Ward could do any better.
Narborough_fox Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 6 out of 12... Still better than Andy Haines!
DB11 Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 I don't understand how anyone can get below 6. Surely 1, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12 are all obvious even for non referees?
marko Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 Of course, I bet it only took you 7 goes to get that.
DB11 Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 I bet it only took you 7 goes to get that. Well no, it took me one. I'm a referee I know the laws perfectly well, thanks.
syston_fox Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 Well no, it took me one. I'm a referee I know the laws perfectly well, thanks. Sounds like you're over qualified to me!
marko Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 Well no, it took me one. I'm a referee I know the laws perfectly well, thanks. I know, I was joking.
ADK Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 So i got four of them wrong i wonder what the reasoning is behind them? Why can't a goalkeeper score an own goal from a free kick? Why is a penalty awarded if a player spits at another one inside the area? Surely the offence isn't related to the football? What if they were standing slightly off the pitch would anything be awarded then? Why does the ref choose the goal for penalties, surely one side might have a preference? What does he base his decision on? The state of the goal?
Soar Fox Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 Well no, it took me one. I'm a referee I know the laws perfectly well, thanks. What standard do you referee at?
DB11 Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 So i got four of them wrong i wonder what the reasoning is behind them? Why can't a goalkeeper score an own goal from a free kick? Why is a penalty awarded if a player spits at another one inside the area? Surely the offence isn't related to the football? What if they were standing slightly off the pitch would anything be awarded then? Why does the ref choose the goal for penalties, surely one side might have a preference? What does he base his decision on? The state of the goal? The laws say that an own goal cannot be scored from any restart of play. Whether it be a corner, goal kick, throw in, even kick off. Pretend the goal posts are not there and that is what you'd have; a corner. Spitting is an offence punishable by a direct free kick. It is more serious than any technical offence, for which an indirect free kick should be awarded. The laws of the game say that the referee chooses which end kicks from the penalty mark should be taken from. So yes, in case one goal area is better than the other or (at parks football) there is a lake behind one goal or something! The referee can base his decision on whatever he wants, so referees at top level, where neither goal mouth is different to the other, will base 'their' decision by maybe tossing the coin and asking the winning captain to make the decision. What standard do you referee at? Just grass roots park football. Although knowing the laws does not make you a good referee, else any lawyer would become a premier league referee in no time!
acooling08 Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 Got 7, League 1 referee. Most of these questions are irrelevant to what we moan about though. It's not about which end the referee chooses for penalty shootouts, it's about them consistently getting the big decisions in games wrong.
Guest Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 If it's any consolation, Andy D'Urso only got 2. I dread to think what Gavin Ward got!
ozleicester Posted 8 November 2012 Posted 8 November 2012 7/12 - pretty poor really..totally thrown by the own goal by the keeper. To be fair, i didnt even know the lino's had different flag actions... i just thought they waved it when an incident (any incident, throw in, off side etc etc.) occurred.
lcfcadam Posted 12 November 2012 Posted 12 November 2012 Got 10, and the ones I got wrong were the ones I imagine most people would - the one about deciding the end for penos (pretty sure I'd just do a coin toss anyway if I was the ref), and the one about the windy own goal which is just a rather odd football rule...
Dylan Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 11/12- Premier League Ref... mind you, I am a qualified ref too... didn't say which one I got wrong however
Matt Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 Can I ask anyone who knows the answer or any budding referees or DB11 himself about the corner last night before half time? Doesn't the ball have to be in play? I mean the referee could have blown up as soon as we kicked for the corner but for it not to even be taken? Also, I'm not sure myself I wasn't timing it and didn't notice the time on the screens but I have heard from a few people apparently the referee blew for half time about 20 seconds before the actual 45 minutes, so not only did he not let us take a corner he blew for half time before the right time. For the recond I think we'd have scored from the corner and then gone on the win the game, therefore I blame the referee for us not winning last night
