I have to agree....why do people come to interviews like they've just got out of bed? Why do they sit there like a statue and why do they show no confidence or personality?

Its like the people in my office who moan about not being promoted, I just want to say its because you always look miserable and look like you hate the job...maybe if you showed some enthusiasm people might notice.

A similar story from my recent interview process....

Myself and two other colleagues went for the job that I eventually got, both have been in the industry about 3 times longer than me. One pulled out of his own accord but the other, who has applied for this position at two other sites before, was turned down at the first stage.

Mainly because he is a lazy fvcker who literally does nothing all shift, has umpteen coffee breaks, spend a silly amount of time on his actual lunch breaks and is almost unmanageable. My boss wants me to find a way to get rid of him but as I'm new in the position I am giving him time to mess up on his own accord. I doubt it will take long.

Conversively, when I started here I was a volunteer, then a was accepted onto the staff and went for the promotion (probably a bit before I was ready) and got it. I have put in weeks of my own time. Always asked about the business and taken a genuine interest and now the hard work is beginning to pay off.

Getting a job is not easy these days but some of the people that I interview to replace my old position completely take the piss. Yes, we NEED to fill my old shoes but I won't just take on any old bibbit who won't last 3 months because they don't have the right drive to do what is required.

This has been a real eye opener.

Having fortunately been in work since leaving full-time education, I haven't ever had to go down to the job centre. It sounds like a thoroughly depressing experience for anybody with an ounce of self-respect.

Before becoming unemployed 18 month ago I was in work since 15/16 around 35 years with no more than six months break. I was lucky when I left the hosiery (redundancy) as I met someone who suggested trying security. I was 52/53 If I had not taken that I may have been out of work for a while and the longer you are without a job the harder it becomes to find one. I would say to the younger ones the same as others. Don't be too fussy. You can still search when in work for something better. I just want something for less than five years as I do not want to work much beyond retirement age. It would be different if I was a career man or had a trade established for a number of years or had a family/mortgage car etc. I may not have a choice but to carry on to pay for the grand living style the missus was used to.

Employment and Support Allowance

A 12 month limit is set to be introduced to contributory Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) claims.

After 12 months, the benefit will be withdrawn and replaced in full or in part with income-related ESA.

However, the government expects that 40% of claimants are not likely to qualify for any ESA after the 12 month period, and as such the payments will be withdrawn and their net income will fall by £36 per week.

Was my post changed? Anyway I thought I'd put from the age of 15/16. Think it was 1968-2003 at one place then seven years at three others. I am not counting the four months at Abbey Park when I left school. It was between that and the hosiery that I had a break. I remember walking down Abbey Park Road calling into every factory asking if they had any vacancies. That was the time when Leicester had some industries around and there were more jobs for the unskilled.
