ADK Posted 1 January 2013 Posted 1 January 2013 Compared to houses in the south those places are cheap.
SystonFox Posted 1 January 2013 Posted 1 January 2013 As has been said, pretty sure houses on The Ridgeway would double that but nobodies gonna sell up on there. Woodies is a lonnnnng walk from swithland lane! But yes it's a wonderful pub

SystonFox Posted 1 January 2013 Posted 1 January 2013 Long walk You lazy bar steward. Are you jermain beckford I live 10 minute walk from the woodies and that's long enough! I'd hazard a guess that if you lived closest to Rothley station itd still take 30 minutes to walk down to the woodies. The stumble back up the hill in the dark won't be much fun when razzoed

Finnegan Posted 2 January 2013 Posted 2 January 2013 Shouldn't be depressing. It's only cheap because it's a dull, lifeless village in a dull part of a dull county surrounded by even more dull areas. If you've got that kind of money you're better off buying a smaller house in an area where you are close to some kind of life and not stuck out in dullsville. I know some people like 'the quiet life' but they are generally wankers with skeletons in their closets. Give me a grimy one bed in central London over a life of nothingness in a place like rothley any day. Whilst I agree with the second part of your post (and, to be fair, Rothley is pretty dull) it's pretty obvious why it's as popular an area as it is with the middle-to-upper class CofE Tory crowd. Reasonably green, ridiculous amount of churches and homely pubs, little of the dirt and noise of an inner city and two seconds from a whopping great golf course. Tally ho, pip pip, etc.
The People's Hero Posted 2 January 2013 Posted 2 January 2013 Having looked at that I might move to Leicester!
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 January 2013 Posted 2 January 2013 What were you doing pissing on their silk wallpaper I bet they never asked you to do work for them again. Reminds me of the plumber we had, broke some pottery, fitted the toilet seat wrongly, connected the hot water supply to the cold tap in the bathroom, cut the telephone cable and put his foot through the ceiling. Jesus... was his surname "Chuckle" by any chance?
act smiley Posted 2 January 2013 Posted 2 January 2013 Looked at Rothley on Rightmove. Wish I hadn't. Suffice to say the house I would like to buy but cannot afford near my daughters school in Woking, I could afford comfortably in Rothley. Depressing. Just the price of prime commuter location, really, isn't it? I don't get how it can be that sustainable, though - when I was working there the only people who could afford it were couples & even renting was ridiculous. I know something like 2 or 3 people who are living alone, everyone else is either a couple or living in shared houses. I'd have expected there to be a proper housing crash already.
Zingari Posted 2 January 2013 Posted 2 January 2013 New Parks is a fookin expensive place to live . It costs me a fortune replacing broken windows , slashed tyres etc , not to mention stolen garden gnomes etc

Zingari Posted 2 January 2013 Posted 2 January 2013 I bet the price of knocked off gear in the local boozer is top price too. Yes it is . Sometimes I think I'm buying back my own garden gnomes an' all .
skinnydipper Posted 2 January 2013 Posted 2 January 2013 My folks live(d) in Western Park, the Meadway and Westfield Road, always seemd quite nice round there. I lived on Letchworth Rd , two houses past the Meadway turn. In 70s and early 80s so perhaps a bit before your time.
