This has shades of Danny Willett winning the Masters in 2016 too

Brilliant course management from rai and great mentality

I reckon rahm will be kicking himself that he didn’t take 3 wood a few more times

shinnecock (us open) will definitely suit his game too if it’s firm  (would be similar challenge to this week)

i much prefer to see players using their skills to chart their way around a course rather than just smashing it as far as they can and then hoping they can get themselves out of the crap. IMO, there should be a reward for being straight off the tee.

Yeah he’s been in and around in a bigger way than before in these last 12 months

I had only heard of him a few years back due to watching a lot of Me And My Golf

Absolutely delighted for him!

I wonder now if he’ll end up leaving the above as Sponsors. There’s only so much a couple of Brummies living in Florida can put in, compared to the big sponsors

Very doubtful, they sound inseperable. Brings a tear to your eye.

After playing a couple of times a week since last September-ish I have finally broken 50 for a 9 hole round for the first time.

I ditched the phone app for the round and went back to the paper scorecard so I couldn't see a running total of my score, it made a massive difference and I managed to post 47. A massive relief. I think I struggle so much because 90% of the difficulty is in my head.

Tried no hero shots, just kept it straight and in play without trying to smash it.

So happy.

Fully expect a mid 50s score again next round but I know I can do it now.

Its nice to see somebody else here on my sort of level! Breaking 50 I can do around the 9 hole courses local to me such as blaby, Enderby, Leicester golf centre. But I still haven't broken 100 on a proper 18 hole course and seem to be getting further away despite playing more. Time for lessons I suppose!

Anyway, well done on your round :appl:

I ditched this too for a long time. Always told my partners I don’t to know my score at the turn

Like you say- it helps massively

Well done on a good 9!

PGA of America has fired Bob Rea Jr., the guy behind the Bethpage Ryder Cup fiasco (and who issued an insipid dismissal of its significance). I don't agree with much of what they do but good move here.

A gross 77 this morning off the whites, my best round of the year so far.

Think I 'found' something with my driving which made a huge difference - grip pressure.

I know I've been guity of gripping the driver too tight in the past so made a concious effort today to grip it lightly and wow, what a difference.

Hit 12/14 fairways and gained about 15-20 yards.

Brilliant 👏🏼

I just hit 3 wood off the tee, but I grip it so tightly to stop and face twist

Quality. Keep yourself out of trouble at any level (low, mid or high handicap) and you'll score better.

Hit as many GIR as possible.

Something my coach talks about and something I'd love to try is playing with no pins. Objective is just hit every GIR, law of averages says you'll hit one close and see what you score for 9 holes...

Maybe one day!

Dan Brown really making a name for himself Stateside. Gaining loads of followers on social media and handing out cigarettes to the crowd during a round is making him a real fans favourite.

He clearly doesn't take life too seriously but it's reflected in his results over there which have been mostly bang average an he'll probably lose his card.

Would like to see a bit more dedication from him but he's enjoying his 15 minutes of fame bless him.

Has anyone ever played a round that felt really good, only to then check their scorecard and it tells a completely different story? That was me this evening

I can definitely relate, all I can say is when I have these days, my thoughts after are "I can feel a good round coming". It might take a little while to actually come out but its definitely coming. I'm in one of those moments now, you just look back at where you've made the odd stupid mistake or not quite chipped it close enough there or holed enough putts and it impacts your score.

There's loads of times I've hit the ball well and scored poorly, be that putting poorly or just generally not making the most of scoring opportunities. Some days the hole is like a bucket other days you can't buy a putt. It's just golf.

This weekend I shot 74 (+3) with 35 putts. Didn't hit it particularly close to any hole, had a couple of 1 putts, couple of 3 putts. Just a good, but not quite, day.

I often have a good opening 9 holes, playing well under my handicap, so go into the back 9 feeling great. Then invariably bolx it up and end up playing well over my handicap and ending up with a disappointing score.

Starting to get a bit tired and my back stiffening up slightly is partly to blame, but the rest must be psychological.

Looks like you’ve inspired Bryson on how to improve his game… :D

All the time. Do you track any stats for your round? Usually helps to see where the shots are being lost and gives you some targeted practice areas.

Interesting how he made reference numerous times to using AI/Gemini to analyse his swing (well he is sponsored by Google, so...)

Looking back on it i think I lost most of my shots around and on the green which has been my strong point lately. Hopefully the golfing gods shine on me one day and give me a round in which my long and short game both go well :) Well done on the 74! A score like that i can only dream of right now.

After this post i scrutinised each hole and I think for sure most shots were lost on putting. Here's a question, if youre putting from off the green do you count it as a putt?

Officially, no.

If you are off the green and can't mark your ball, be it an inch or 10 yards, and use a putter, and then once on the green take 2 putts to get it in the hole, it's technically a 2 putt.

However, if I was a foot off the green and took 3 to get down with the putter I would class that as a 3 putt.
