If we beat Cardiff...

Recommended Posts

Well it's been a while since we won there in the league (march 2008, if you don't count the play-off semi-final 2nd leg). Are we due a result there? We're very capable of beating any team in that division, we all know that, but after Saturday I just can't see where a win is going to come from.

It's a fair point. If we'd have ended up in 5th at this stage on the back of a 12-match winning run after a really poor start to the season, we'd now be salivating at the prospect of tearing down the meagre five point gap.

Sadly, we're not, so we're not, and we won't.

The fact that we're not considered to have a chance against Cardiff, unlike recent games where we were expected to win, might be in our favour. All the pressure and expectation is on Cardiff.

The performances have been truly dreadful of late and unless something drastic changes, I really can't see us getting anything from Cardiff. As other people have said, it's not the position we're in, it's the fact that our style of play has changed completely since Wood came in (barring the first couple of games) and we're now just looking hopeless. Just because we have a tall guy upfront (who's not that great in the air anyway, his greatest strength appears to be his finishing) doesn't mean that we have to lump it to him.

We've got time to turn this around, have a strong end to the season and have some momentum for the play-offs, but I'm not sure Pearson has it in him to do that considering he's let our style and performances change for the worse and is yet to do anything about it.

Here's my If...

"If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too:

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;

If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same:.

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings,

And never breathe a word about your loss:

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much:

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!"

Stringer " well Nigel, a somewhat disappointing loss tonight"

Pearson " I wouldn't call it disappointing Ian. A tough game, but my players worked very hard."

Stringer"Brighton have won and we are now 6th with Nottingham forest just below us, are you worried?"

Pearson " are you worried Ian? I don't worry about other teams. We do what we have to do, we work hard on the training ground together."

Stringer" how are the players feeling after that defeat?"

Pearson " what answer do you expect me to give to that? We lost the game, do you think they are happy?"

Stringer" also the first time we have lost by more than a single goal this season..."

Pearson " yes"

Stringer" any thoughts on that?"

Pearson " plenty, but I won't be telling you"

Etc etc Etc etc
