flowwolf Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Come on own up, who did you pay to write those reviews? Always fancied having a crack at writing a book, unfortunately I can't write or spell. It's not stopped you before .
LanguedocFox Posted 24 April 2013 Author Posted 24 April 2013 I've submitted a couple of novels for publication to publishers in the past without success. I've thought of brushing them up and trying the Kindle route too. All the best with your maximum octopus! Go for it! I've got a few IT issues at the moment but I am in the process of revising my blog, which has the story of how I got round to publishing King's Ransom. I'll post the link in a couple of days, and if you need any advice/help on how to get from here to there, I'm happy to share what I know. Up the City!
Guest Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 That's an impressive range of work - puts me to shame. I'm not at my own computer at the moment but will definitely download something on Friday when I get back online. Good to meet you. I have a few nom de plumes for different work. I didn't think you'd be interested in the University English stuff . As you say publishing is easy nowadays - 25 years ago it was hard work. I'll download yours tomorrow - is it only through amazon or do you have independents that send you a few extra pennies?

Only Amazon at the moment: it took me long enough to get it on there. But I may try and republish it on other platforms. when I have a miniute. I've a couple of other half-finished novels I might try and publish as well, later this year. On the other hand, I might not have time, what with the play-off finals and all that!
LanguedocFox Posted 30 April 2013 Author Posted 30 April 2013 Thanks for the support. I hope you enjoy the read, and it would be great if you could post a review (good or bad) when you've finished it. Most of the comments I've had have been good: the only negative was "that could never happen", by a mate who clearly doesn't understand the concept of a "novel".
Ric Flair Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 I've not got a kindle but i'm tempted to buy it anyway.
LanguedocFox Posted 30 April 2013 Author Posted 30 April 2013 You can read Kindle books on most things (Androids, iPhone, iPad, PCs, Laptops). Just need to download one of the Kindle reading apps from Amazon:http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=dig_arl_box?ie=UTF8&docId=1000425503. I haven't got a Kindle either - I read stuff on my laptop.
Webbo Posted 7 May 2013 Posted 7 May 2013 Just finished. It's never going to win a Nobel Prize but it was quite enjoyable.

Webbo Posted 7 May 2013 Posted 7 May 2013 I'm very doubtful that any work of fiction would... I think you'll find that quite a lot fiction writers have won a Nobel prize. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_laureates_in_Literature
sphericalfox Posted 7 May 2013 Posted 7 May 2013 I think you'll find that quite a lot fiction writers have won a Nobel prize. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_laureates_in_Literature Not sure why that would contradict what your statement said Webbo. Read what you wrote.
LanguedocFox Posted 16 May 2013 Author Posted 16 May 2013 Just finished. It's never going to win a Nobel Prize but it was quite enjoyable. Sorry, Webbo, I only just saw this. Glad you enjoyed it at least a bit: it was never intended to be a work of literature, but I hope it whiled away the time. It would be great if you (and anyone else who's read it) could put a review on the Amazon page http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CD32RYE. I've had six reviews already, and every little helps. Up the City, and here's to automatic promotion next season. Yeah, OK.
Finnaldo Posted 16 May 2013 Posted 16 May 2013 I think I'll wait for the HBO telly series based on it. Fully expecting their trademark 'fit as many naked women as physically possible into the first episode' trick.
Rincewind Posted 16 May 2013 Posted 16 May 2013 I've only published poetry at local level (no ISBN) Have an idea for a series of short stories. Done about eight. It is about three friends and a sort of guide dog and their year long quest for the perfect pint. The stories ar far-fetched and probably have many flaws but they are not meant to be factual. Anyway well done. I like to see aceievements like this. Can I mention it on the radio station I am involved with? We have an arts section which asks for successes and promotes the 'little man' saying anyone can do it.

And a few gags.

Sure, I would love it if you could mention it on the radio station you are involved with: as often as you like. I'm sending out a press release next week in which I will be offering availability for telephone interviews as well: let me know if that is of interest. As far as your own short-story collection is concerned, if you keep an eye on my author-blog http://johnmartynwilson.wordpress.com/ I am going to be explaining how I formatted/published/promoted King's Ransom on Amazon Kindle (which does not need an ISBN). If you need any particular advice, let me know. Happy to help in any way I can.
Rincewind Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 I don't have a Kindle but I have another reader. I am tempted to get one though. ON JSA for another month then on pension credit. My income will go up so may treat myself The reader I have is like a Kindle but struggles to load some formats from Amazon and other sites. I thought you were Leicester based. I will still give you a mention and how you published because the aim of the radio slot is to promote local talent and show how it can be done. I tried Lulu but got stuck near the end. Anther thing I want to do is to put together an anthology of work from people that are homeless or in hostels in Leicester. Been held back a little by illness but will get on with it in the next few momths hopefully.

Rincewind Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Thanks. Just seeing if I have a version of my present book.. Self published it but no ISBN. I had someone proof read it and they sent it to the printers. I don't have the final copy. SAw her in the week and asked her to send a copy to me. Might be able to do that one as a starter. just needs setting up.
marko Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 John, I really enjoyed your book. I'd definitely recommend it and I'd purchase any further novels you release. *SPOILER ALERT for anyone reading or considering purchasing* However, I'd like to have seen Gardner get screwed over more
Rincewind Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 As I said Ken, I'll help you with Lulu if you want. Done it on Amazon not sure if I can have it on both. Certainly consider it for my next one. I was l wondering where this thread was. If the book is available on Kindle I'll buy it.I've downloaded Kings Ransom but can't see where I've been charged. Maybe they'll take it out of my sales.
