inckley fox Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 I once talked with a class about heroes. I'd prepared a tacky little slideshow with some of these faces on it... John Lennon, Ray Davies, Kurt Vonnegut, William Blake, George Orwell, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Chris Morris, Clement Attlee, Winston Churchill, Buenaventura Durruti, Hunter Thompson, Damon Albarn, Syd Barrett, Peter Cook, Richard III (bizarrely, I know, and since I was about 5), Adolfo Suarez, Kurt Cobain, Ian Brown, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Laurence Olivier, Julia Davis, Martin O'Neill, Beck, Joe Strummer, Sylvia Plath... ...Upon which a kid with all sorts of behavioural problems, who was away from school as often as she was in it, pointed out that they were all white (Yoko obviously had her ski shades on). So, thinking I may have made a breakthrough, I asked the kid who she would add to my list. I waited for Bob Marley, Nelson Mandela, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King or someone equally worthy. Then came the answer: "I quite like Trisha."

MC Prussian Posted 13 June 2013 Posted 13 June 2013 I have nothing but respect for my grandmother and her family for making it through WWII unharmed, fleeing the Russians oop Northeast. I admire all the people who still manage to put a smile on their respective face when faced with poverty, poor working conditions, adversity and daily struggles: The poor, the sick, the oppressed. And I hold Carl von Ossietzky in high esteem, although I doubt he's known outside Germany.
Zingari Posted 13 June 2013 Posted 13 June 2013 Dylan Avery , David Ray Griffin, Korey Rowe , Richard Gage, John Anthony Hill, Rob Balsamo , Jim Tucker, Jim Marrs , Webster Tarpley, Kevin Ryan , Kevin Barrett , William Rodriguez , Mike Ruppert oh .....far too many to list really .
MC Prussian Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 I vaguely remember hearing about Charles Eugster in the past, but now that I've read more about him, I really like the guy: Turned his life around past the 80-year mark, found a way out of depression, personal loss and bodily decay and is now fit as a fiddle again. P.S.: He turns 94 in August.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 No-one except my mum really. She sat and watched my dad slowly disintegrate and eventually pass away last year while I cowered away and was unable to cope with it. The things and times she must've gone through sitting there and watching him I can't imagine.
Wymsey Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 No-one except my mum really. She sat and watched my dad slowly disintegrate and eventually pass away last year while I cowered away and was unable to cope with it. The things and times she must've gone through sitting there and watching him I can't imagine. I hope you're coping better now mate. My Father watched his Mother pass away in the Leics Royal Hospital last September (which happened in the morning), but at early afternoon on the same day, he had an important business meeting - which was crucial that he didn't miss. Some of the meeting members knew that she was ill initially, but when my Father informed them of his Mother's death on this same day, they personally apologized to him and gave him some general advice on this matter.
