leicsmac Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 Japan definitely has problems in that area. They had to in fact introduce women only carriages so men would stop touching up school girls and women. This is a country where the national age of consent is 13. Had, not has. It's a stereotype that it is still widely prevalent. It's not.
lavrentis Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 Had, not has. It's a stereotype that it is still prevalent. It's not. The problem is still there. Look in Japanese media and music. Groups such as AKB48 which are plastered everywhere which have young girls dressed in school uniform etc That being said I am not saying the Japanese are peadophiles but their culture is especially weird when it comes to this sort of thing.

We have barely legal teen porn, websites full of underage looking girls with braces on their teeth and pigtails. These aren't websites that get you put on a list somewhere, either, they're multi.million pound businesses. And Britney Spears was waving her tits and arse about dressed like a schoolgirl long before AKB were even adults, which they are. The Japanese have a lot of weird media and are infinitely less politically correct than we are (which I'd have thought most of you would be applauding) but they're not some vastly alien group of sexual miscreants. It's just a myth like French onion sellers and inbred Americans.

I thought you were referring to the incidents on trains/buses specifically, which isn't a problem any more. The culture itself is another matter entirely, and as I said before I think that does stem from the conservatism they have about sex in the mainstream public eye. But they're hardly the only country to have weird stuff happening in the subcultures because of sexual conservatism. As I also said before, there's a reason why 50 Shades is/was so popular here. And Finn covers it better than I can above.
Rincewind Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 Have I missed something? How this turn into a discussion on Japanese porn culture? Did someone name them as ones to admire?

Not much different to what I've been saying tbh but I'd have thought there would be no disputing that peadophillia is a lot more common in Japan and one would put that down to the culture. Off point but some Japanese old man told me when I was over there to "never marry a Japanese women because they will be all well and good when you are doing fine but once you are in a mess they will leave and take you for what you got" Have I missed something? How this turn into a discussion on Japanese porn culture? Did someone name them as ones to admire? I admire you Ken.
Finnegan Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 Where as an incredibly ancient old man grabbed me at Asakusa and told me to go to some rural station where the women are prettiest and to fall in love with (and marry) a beautiful Japanese girl. He was very keen for Japan and the West to be united, it was all very strange. He had a severe stoop, I'm only five nine / ten but I had to lean down entirely just to hear him. My mates just scrapered. Bastards.

But there's some great folk there too, just like anywhere else. Depends on who you run into! Back on topic - Alan Turing. Came up with ideas that pretty much no one else could to break the Enigma code and in so doing save thousands of lives. Man was a frigging genius.
