Alf Bentley Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Given his comments about pursuing a "democratic" route or whatever, I wonder if he and his allies see the potential for a far right party standing in elections. The BNP seems to have imploded somewhat, UKIP seem to be disowning their crazier elements and opting for a mainstream right "anti-EU, control immigration" message.... Given the level of general dissatisfaction in the country, and the high profile of immigration as a political issue, there's probably a vacancy for a "far right" electoral party - and they probably have the profile, contacts and bodies on the ground to get it kickstarted. Purely speculation, and I hope that I'm wrong and he's just come to his senses as Bellend Sebastian speculates...that would almost restore your faith in humanity!
The Doctor Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 What's that got to do with islam? The bombers on 7/7 were Muslims. If you look hard enough there'll be verses supporting terrorism in the quran.

Can't see it Alf, despite what the media would have believe he's isn't particulary far right. He's not even right wing. He dates asian and black girls, he's catholic from an Irish background and and half his family is mixed race. It's hardly the profile of a man you expect to launch the new NF.
hackneyfox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 12 weeks ago he's denying that some EDL members are throwing sieg heils and now he's decided some of them are morons. He has an agenda.

danny. Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Here we go! Sorry, I meant to say; it was the muslims, them that did 911 too and who is running iraq and afganistan and libya. I'll get back to watching xfactor and reading the sun now.

He dates asian and black girls, he's catholic from an Irish background and and half his family is mixed race. It's hardly the profile of a man you expect to launch the new NF. Hardly the profile of a man you'd expect to lead the EDL, an organisation that blatantly sought to provoke racial and/or religious conflict (as the Islamic extremists do, too, before someone jumps on me), then. Maybe he just enjoyed a good excuse for a ruck and got bored / too old for it? Wouldn't entirely surprise me to see them crop up as a far right electoral party, though. Interestingly, BBC lunchtime news suggested that as many as 10 of the EDL leaders had left - so not just 1 or 2 blokes who got bored or thought better of it...and the EDL didn't seem to be a spent force, unlike the BNP (I hope). His mixed racial family/connections could even be a PR benefit in that context. "Watch this space", I suppose...
hackneyfox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 He has concerns about far right extremism. Didn't want to be associated with other EDL members who have tattoos of a mosque with 'boom' next to it. Taken a long time to come to this decision hasn't he? The Guardian had an undercover reporter join them a number of years back, recorded comments along the lines of 'it's the niggers I hate'. http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2010/may/28/english-defence-league-protest-bnp Here's another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6_D9J685CQ He was happy enough to use people like that to help raise his profile, now he discards them. The BNP did the same with their thugs and attempted to make themselves look respectable. Hitler did the same with the brown shirts in the thirties although he went a step further and had most of the leaders murdered.

Maybe, although the EDL was a multi-racial organisation, quite a few blacks and sikhs were joining with them by 2012, when I worked at the Mercury building I remember speaking to people who told me they made sure they took the pictures that showed any out of print for the papers as to mislead the public into thinking it was an all white organisation. I think the up for a ruck thing sounds a bit more viable to be honest, co-incided with Luton's drop through the leagues as well so they were never getting the days of Leeds, Millwall etc turning up on a Saturday again. Fair point on PR, would be much harder to smear a person like that than Griffin though. Taken a long time to come to this decision hasn't he? The Guardian had an undercover reporter join them a number of years back, recorded comments along the lines of 'it's the niggers I hate'. Really don't remember that, got a link?
MooseBreath Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Can only remember seeing one proper interview with him and he came across quite well in that. Basically said the media had already made up their mind on what he and the EDL were going to be and that meant they had no interest in printing any of their more sensible stances. I think we can all well imagine that to be the case. Good luck to him. He might not be right all the time but he's one of very, very few people who are prepared to risk public condemnation by saying simple but uncomfortable truths.
ADK Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 I thought it was originally a reaction to the picketing of returning British servicemen by extremists in Luton. That and he was a former football hooligan so obviously liked a bit of a scrap on the streets. He can't pretend he didn't know there were racists in his organisation but at least he's finally left them.

Pretty much all the old BNP vote across Lancashire was Labour supporters coming over,
purpleronnie Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 As long as the EDL remain a joke I'll be happy. I doubt they'll disappear, morons and racists always like to be part of groups. Hopefully he'll join UKIP and we can laugh at them....even more than we do now.
hackneyfox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Really don't remember that, got a link? http://www.theguardi...gue-protest-bnp For a man that claims he's got his finger on the pulse he's remarkably ignorant when it comes to his own members. Strange that

People are not allowed to join UKIP if they have ever been a member of the National Front, BNP or English Defence league. It's on the application form and everyone is checked off from the leaked BNP list of a few years ago.

ADK Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 It's ironic that UKIP ban EDL members considering the premise of the EDL isn't really racist while whinging about other people labelling themselves as racist.

hackneyfox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Hmmm. Going to need a bit more proof than an undercover UAF activist writing in the Guardian. Try this then, but quite why anyone needs proof that some members are racist I don't know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6_D9J685CQ

Guest MattP Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Try this then, but quite why anyone needs proof that some members are racist I don't know. Because when you accuse people of an offence as serious as racism you should provide proof. I'll watch the video later on.
