The God Emperor Posted 19 October 2013 Posted 19 October 2013 Just read a pdf of a comic I believe some on here will find interesting, apologies if already posted or there's already a comics thread. its written by spiderman creator Steve Ditko, who was an objectivist, and its pretty much a big rage fueled tirade about what Ditko thinks is wrong with the world. in between building up and burning down straw men, he does make a few good points and the art work is fantastic here's the link to the pdf. http://www.dinosaurgardens.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/avenging-world.pdf enjoy the objectivist rage!
OzFox Posted 20 October 2013 Posted 20 October 2013 I grew up reading his comics...Tales to Astonish, Spider Man, Dr Strange etc. (luckily for me I've still got most of them) Fantastic artist but he has always come across as a bit of a reclusive oddball. He's still working today I think
FoxyPV Posted 20 October 2013 Posted 20 October 2013 I've started getting into comics after reading V for Vendetta. I've just finished Watchmen and am half way through the Sandman series.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 October 2013 Posted 20 October 2013 I still have some 300 "Cowboy Picture Library" and "Thriller Picture Library" comics from the 1950's. All part of my childhood.

Bagged and boxed I hope I wish my parents had the foresight to pick up a few pristine copies of Action No 1, Detective 27 etc and stick them in a cool, dark place...
Raj Posted 20 October 2013 Posted 20 October 2013 I was a beano man and proud member of the Dennis and gnasher club...had to give it in when i had kids!!!!...(seriously I've got loads back from early 80's)
AyewJoking Posted 20 October 2013 Posted 20 October 2013 in spider-man (raimi) is peters landlord mr ditkovic a tribute to steve ditko. if ditko was the creator what has stan lee got to do with it?
The God Emperor Posted 20 October 2013 Author Posted 20 October 2013 in spider-man (raimi) is peters landlord mr ditkovic a tribute to steve ditko. if ditko was the creator what has stan lee got to do with it? its unclear who was the 'creator'. Stan Lee is usually credited as co-creator, but it's debated how much input he had in the creation. He was an editor and did some dialog and he is known in the industry for giving himself more credit than is deserved. there's a BBC documentary 'in search of Steve Ditko' that that explains it all better, I think its on youtube.
FoxyPV Posted 20 October 2013 Posted 20 October 2013 Any recommendations for the next series once I finish The Sandman?
The God Emperor Posted 20 October 2013 Author Posted 20 October 2013 Any recommendations for the next series once I finish The Sandman? depends what your into? if you like watchmen and V for vendetta then any Alan Moore is a safe bet, although in his later stuff he tries to put his weird rape fetish into everything.

My kids are just starting to get into the old annuals, I've got comics, comic libraries, and summer specials as well. It's great to see them being read again. For xmas, my brother and I were always given a Beano or Dandy album each. Father christmas (somehow?) left them on the end of our bed and we would read them before we were allowed wake up mum and dad and go down and open the xmas pressies. ( a clever trick that Father Christmas also used to keep my daughter in bed past 5am on christmas day 25 years later
Rincewind Posted 21 October 2013 Posted 21 October 2013 Used to have all the usual Beano Dandy Superman etc. but never kept any. After they were read they were discarded by mum. Maybe I should have protested but there were 6 kids and as the older ones grew out of them the younger ones read them. Not so much my sister though who was the youngest. Did have the annuals at xmas though. Never thought about saving them or future value.

rico Posted 21 October 2013 Posted 21 October 2013 Anyone remember Warlord or Fireball? 2000AD was another favourite of mine
OzFox Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 I've got early issues of UK Mighty World Of Marvel, all in mint condition bought a bunch of those a few years ago, along with an almost complete run of Spider-Man comics weekly. Was a real blast from the past thumbing through them. Don't think they have much commercial value though, unlike the american originals

Yes, most certainly they are. Every now and again, I slip one out and read it, drifting back to the days when life was so carefree, and without too much worry. My adopted parents always kept me well stocked up with them, and bottles of "Tizer".
