Guest MattP Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Skiing is exhilarating to be honest, I've only been a few times but I can't describe how good the feeling of it is. Yes it's dangerous but I'd never encourage people not to do something so testing and rewarding. We'd all be sat in our living rooms 24/7 if we took the easy option.
Brainy Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Probably not worth going out of the front door then, just in case you get run over or someone shoots you with a massive gun. Its always safer going out the back door
Saxondale Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 The only times people get injured skiing is through a lack of care. If you know you're not skilled enough, don't go down challenging routes/off piste. It's as consistently dangerous as driving. If you drive like a tit, you'll get hurt. That's bollocks. I know of a massively experienced top Swiss ski instructor who died on a beginners slope after slipping and hitting his head while instructing his young grandson.
ADK Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 I doubt it. You are sliding around on ice literally. Obviously it's dangerous and you can mitigate that risk by being skilled/experienced but not completely eliminate it.
Rincewind Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 You cannot eliminate the risk completely but you can reduce the odds. Stunt actors will not do a job without checking every detail.
AoWW Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 http://travel.aol.co.uk/2014/01/22/michael-schumacher-danger-permanent-vegetative-state/ Doesn't sound too good.
Buzzell Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 http://travel.aol.co.uk/2014/01/22/michael-schumacher-danger-permanent-vegetative-state/ Doesn't sound too good. Ohh dear
RobHawk Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Surely that's a standard concern with these kind of injuries though. They always say they won't know 100% what the damage is until they wake. Regarding him not waking up and the situation getting worse, I was under the impression he was in a medically induced coma, I presumed they would try and bring him round once the swelling reduced to an acceptable level. I'm certainly no brain surgeon but I have seen a few series of grays anatomy!

If he isn't in a stable enough state to be brought round after 4 weeks the chance that there is permanent damage is greater.
Haydos Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 Sad news if it turns out to be true. Fingers crossed...
RobHawk Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 Well isn't that the issue? If he isn't in a stable enough state to be brought round after 4 weeks the chance that there is permanent damage is greater. Of course its an issue but with brain injuries they can never really tell anyway! My point was that this isn't really news or groundbreaking and is likely to be a journalist putting 2 and 2 together to make a news story!
cityfanlee23 Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 Update: Not looking good, there is a chance he could be in the coma "too long" causing a "Permanent vegetative state" http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/michael-schumacher-may-vegetative-state-3047576 NOT FULL ARTICLE - "Michael Schumacher’s worried family today thanked his fans for their support as fears grow that he may have suffered permanent brain damage. Former F1 world champion Michael, 45, has been in an induced coma for four weeks and it is reported he is now in danger of being left in a permanent vegetative state. But his wife Corinna, 44, used the star’s website to say today: “We all know: he is a fighter and will not give up!†The family added that the messages of support had helped them in the darkest hours. The statement said: “We are deeply moved that there is no let up in the good wishes for Michael from around the world. That gives us strength. Thank you all of you!†Despite the support, Corinna and Michael’s other close family and friends have not been able to mask their concerns that he is nowhere near making a recovery after his skiing accident in France. Jean-Marc Orgogozo, professor of neurology at the University of Bordeaux, said: “Every day, every week in a coma the chances decline that the situation is improving.â€
RobHawk Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 From the Mirror article: In my own professional personal experience it would be too early to put any such label on Michael Schumacher, but it is correct for doctors to warn his family at this stage - and it is absolutely horrible for doctors to watch. This is exactly what i was saying about it not being news! Of course there is a chance it could be worse case scenario but it also may not! Its still too early to tell!

Yes, but the "Worst case scenario" seems evidently more likely now, as he has been in the state he is in for a month... which is 2 weeks more than average... And he is not showing signs of coming out any time soon according to other articles... So it is "News"

I have no problem with the press reporting on the statements released by his family but the rest is complete drivvle! I said earlier, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to say being in an induced Coma for 4 weeks isn't a good thing, the longer it goes on the worst chances there are of a full recovery and they they won't know the full picture until he comes out of the Coma. Thats obvious to anyone without a brain cell! Its nothing more than the newspapers filling column space, which given the circumstances i think is in poor taste.

Ok well let's say that we should post no more "Updates" until he either wakes up, or dies. Otherwise RobHawk may let that chip on his shoulder get the better of him... Jesus...

On the plus side at least you didn't start a new thread on it (<----- that is having a go at you!)

Brainy Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 Tbf Lee the "update" you posted this morning was from the 21st Jan
RobHawk Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 Fair play, seemed you were, I know you mentioned the press, however it seemed directed... Love you too If you look above your post mate it all started at what AOWW posted. Just think the press are complete ****tards and this is a great example of news that isn't news!
MC Prussian Posted 30 January 2014 Author Posted 30 January 2014 Michael Schuhmacher is currently carefully being woken up from his coma, with the doctors cutting down on the dosage of the narcotic. Hope you're getting well soon enough, Schumi. And that you'll be able to live a decent life after therapy.
