MC Prussian Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Michael Schumacher has been involved in a skiing accident in France today, just days before his 45th birthday, and brought to a hospital in Grenoble. According to latest news, he was skiing outside of the marked course in Méribel shortly after 11am when he collided heads-on with a rock, suffering a serious concussion - well, actually it's called an intracranial injury. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/dec/29/michael-schumacher-tests-injuring-head-skiing-accident His condition has apparently worsened over the past few hours. No matter what you think of him as a media character and F1 driver, that's really bad news. I hope he gets well again soon.
Tom17LCFC Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Doesn't sound good at all, hope he comes through. One of the greatest sportsmen of the modern era.
Stadt Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 SSN didn't seem to know about the severity earlier but anyway I hope he gets better.
Hollism Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Confirmed that he's in a critical condition now and numerous reports that he's fighting for his life. Hope he does pull through. He was the only reason I watched F1 as a kid.
isaidno Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 hope he pulls through . A legend in Formula 1 ,and world sport

Larry_LCFC Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Doesn't sound good at all. Absolute sporting legend, and one of the greatest in my lifetime. Hope he pulls through. Would be a huge loss to motorsport!
Tuna Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Absolute legend of sport, I really hope he pulls through.
iamafox Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Schumi was the reason why I started watching F1. Hope he can pull through this.
Ian W LCFC Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 One of the best F1 drivers of all time, a few hours ago they were saying it wasn't serious at all. Really hope he can pull through. A sporting great!
Bryn Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 The mechanism of injury and the pattern of lucidity followed by coma suggest a subdural haematoma. Unfortunately, the prognosis is poor, even with best possible care.
Asha Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Horrible feeling, guys. He's always been one of my heroes, but especially in the Ferrari days he was always the guy I looked up to, and the reason I got into F1. Can even remember how my attention to F1 waned initially once he retired. Really hope he pulls through

He's always been one of my heroes, but especially in the Ferrari days he was always the guy I looked up to, and the reason I got into F1. Mike the Metal Ed Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 The mechanism of injury and the pattern of lucidity followed by coma suggest a subdural haematoma. Unfortunately, the prognosis is poor, even with best possible care. Having lost somebody under similar circumstances this year, I know this is going to be one of the worst experiences his family will go through. I really wish him all the best for a recovery.
Bryn Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Having lost somebody under similar circumstances this year, I know this is going to be one of the worst experiences his family will go through. I really wish him all the best for a recovery. I'm sorry to hear that. Happened to a lad at my medical school a few weeks ago after getting beaten up in a takeaway, afaik he's still in Neuro intensive care. Take home message, don't ignore head injuries.
Guest shearfox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 I can't say I was a fan but this is truly terrible, I hope he come through! awful news... he is a true F1 great
Brainy Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Cant really remember the exact problems with their injuries but I remember all the panic about Massa being in a critical condition a few years ago, and he turned out to be OK
FoxesAreBlue Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Really hope he recovers from this. Fingers crossed.
foxfanazer Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Hope he pulls through. Love him or hate him he is a true sporting genius
Guest Bilo Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 As Bryn says, the prognosis with an acute subdural haematoma isn't great. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/subdural-haematoma/Pages/Introduction.aspx It's unlikely he'll come out the same if he does win his fight for life.
