Michael Schumacher severely injured

Michael Schumacher has been involved in a skiing accident in France today, just days before his 45th birthday, and brought to a hospital in Grenoble.

According to latest news, he was skiing outside of the marked course in Méribel shortly after 11am when he collided heads-on with a rock, suffering a serious concussion - well, actually it's called an intracranial injury.

His condition has apparently worsened over the past few hours.

No matter what you think of him as a media character and F1 driver, that's really bad news.

I hope he gets well again soon.

Confirmed that he's in a critical condition now and numerous reports that he's fighting for his life.

Hope he does pull through. He was the only reason I watched F1 as a kid.

Fighting for his life according to a German news agency. :(

Legendary driver, sincerely hope he pulls through.

Doesn't sound good at all. Absolute sporting legend, and one of the greatest in my lifetime. Hope he pulls through. Would be a huge loss to motorsport!

One of the best F1 drivers of all time, a few hours ago they were saying it wasn't serious at all. Really hope he can pull through. A sporting great!

The mechanism of injury and the pattern of lucidity followed by coma suggest a subdural haematoma. Unfortunately, the prognosis is poor, even with best possible care.

Horrible feeling, guys.

He's always been one of my heroes, but especially in the Ferrari days he was always the guy I looked up to, and the reason I got into F1. Can even remember how my attention to F1 waned initially once he retired.

Really hope he pulls through  :fc:

I've not got a great feeling about this either :(

Having lost somebody under similar circumstances this year, I know this is going to be one of the worst experiences his family will go through. I really wish him all the best for a recovery.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Happened to a lad at my medical school a few weeks ago after getting beaten up in a takeaway, afaik he's still in Neuro intensive care. Take home message, don't ignore head injuries.

Cant really remember the exact problems with their injuries but I remember all the panic about Massa being in a critical condition a few years ago, and he turned out to be OK
