Stadt Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Cant really remember the exact problems with their injuries but I remember all the panic about Massa being in a critical condition a few years ago, and he turned out to be OKThe circumstances are completely different, Schumacher's condition is far worse than Massa's was.
Bryn Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 It should be said that it is very difficult to anticipate how athletes will respond to injury, they're so much fitter than the general population. F1 drivers are stupendously physiologically robust. Fingers crossed.
AndWhat? Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Terrible news, hope he pulls through. Harsh how he drove cars 200mph and never got injured then he goes and bangs his head on a rock while skiing. Life's a bitch.
Haydos Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Was hoping for news of some improvement this morning can't help but fear the worst with the severity of it. BBC news report was updated 10 mins ago and he was (still) said to be fighting for his life.
Kitchandro Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Terrible news, hope he pulls through. Harsh how he drove cars 200mph and never got injured then he goes and bangs his head on a rock while skiing. Life's a bitch. Skiing is consistently dangerous. Out of the numerous people I know who have gone skiing all of them have come back with some sort of injury. You'll never catch me doing it that's for sure.

Kitchandro Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Its worth the risk, skiing and boarding is an amazing experience. Well it's not worth it if you die or have brain damage is it.
Charl91 Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Doesn't help that he wasn't skiing on a ski-run. Increases the risk a lot I imagine.
Haydos Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Well it's not worth it if you die or have brain damage is it. Probably not worth going out of the front door then, just in case you get run over or someone shoots you with a massive gun.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Hope he makes it. One of the more interesting quotes of the day was from David Coulthard (He of the, "didn't you see me breaking like a pussy in the rain" incident) who when told by the reporter than many drivers had said, "when you saw him in your mirror, you knew you were in for a fight," responded, "well some drivers have an inflated opinion of themselves, because most of the time I was staring at the back of his car." In my opinion, the greatest F1 driver ever.
Donut Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Probably not worth going out of the front door then, just in case you get run over or someone shoots you with a massive gun. Bit of a silly comparison Get well soon Schumi, youre a legend
Kitchandro Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Probably not worth going out of the front door then, just in case you get run over or someone shoots you with a massive gun. Yeh because going out the door is the same as hurtling down a steep hill at god knows what speed with limited control and other people doing the same around you. Silly comment, Haydos.

Silly comment, Haydos. I don't think so. We drive metal 1 tonne objects every day, people die in car crashes all the time. Is there much difference again? Life would be boring if people didn't do stuff that had a small chance of injuring/killing you.
AKCJ Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Skiing is consistently dangerous. Out of the numerous people I know who have gone skiing all of them have come back with some sort of injury. You'll never catch me doing it that's for sure. The only times people get injured skiing is through a lack of care. If you know you're not skilled enough, don't go down challenging routes/off piste. It's as consistently dangerous as driving. If you drive like a tit, you'll get hurt.
Bryn Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 The only times people get injured skiing is through a lack of care. If you know you're not skilled enough, don't go down challenging routes/off piste. This clearly utter garbage, since the main cause of injury associated with off-piste skiing is avalanche, which cannot be prevented at the level of the individual.
AKCJ Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 This clearly utter garbage, since the main cause of injury associated with off-piste skiing is avalanche, which cannot be prevented at the level of the individual. I don't quite know what you're saying. Avalanches can be avoided. You simply don't go into areas where there is an avalanche risk without knowing. If you do you're a tit and will be seriously hurt. However, like I said. If you know the risks then you won't be. Simple as that.

Simple as that. None of the people I know were pissing about, they were doing normal skiing for the less advanced. The idea that only idiots get injured skiing is moronic. There are everyday risks and then there is skiing. I get that some people find it really thrilling but some people think that about motorcycles as well. The truth is both are more dangerous than the average car journey and I'm never surprised when someone gets hurt doing either of them.
MPH Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Any update on his condition? I heard he was going downhill . fast.
foxfanazer Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Any update on his condition? I heard he was going downhill . fast. Is that a joke? If so, too early!
Jimothy Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Is that a joke? If so, too early! Should I hold back on my joke about Barrichello feeling lucky, it could have been him as he'd just let Schumacher passed? Seriously though, it's sad, and I hope he pulls through. I was never his biggest fan but nobody can deny how good he was. He turned Ferrari into champions, not the other way round. Some of his tactics at times were questionable, but I suppose had it been a driver I liked I'd have loved seeing then do the same.
Jimothy Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Press conference on now Family or hospital? They said on the radio the hospital wouldn't be providing any more news until there's something significant to report. At this stage a significant development is more likely to be bad news surely?
Rincewind Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Heard a bit on the radio last night. They said he was still critical but because he was a fit person he could pull through. He is in an induced coma to keep him alive. Apparently he was off the normal slope and because of the lack of snow there were a lot of rocks and tree stumps about. He hit his head on a rock and if not wearing a helmet would not have survived. Why he would take his 14 year old son on that particular part I don't know.
Amin Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Good to hear that he's made a slight improvement.
