BlooArmeh! Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Do delete this thread if there is a dream thread, but I couldn't find it if there is one. I was scrolling through Mack's outburst (Bless him, I do sympathise) and noticed a few people sharing their dreams. We all have dreams. It's nice to catalogue things, share them here. I'll start us off with last night's rather dull one. It was New Year's day and for some reason we were all opening our Christmas presents again. I had all ready opened mine on Christmas day, so I knew what I was going to receive. I was sure everyone knew what they were going to get, but they all acted surprised when opening their shitty Lynx gift sets from Aunty Mel for the second time. I felt compelled to lie and pretend I was receiving the shit gifts for the first time. I didn't because I'm bad at lying. I told everyone how ludicrous they were being and they gave me 'the look' signalling I was dodgy territory. I was pissed off and went to bed. Then I woke up. As I said, dull. Bizarre though... I can't really explain it.
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Lucid dreaming and astral projecting/outer body experience... Familiar with any of these? Scary as owt at 1st but really rewarding!
Stadt Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Lucid dreaming and astral projecting/outer body experience... Familiar with any of these? Scary as owt at 1st but really rewarding! Shît scary! I've only experienced sleep paralysis once but it was probably the most terrifying that I've ever encountered.

If you'd have clicked on at any point in the dream that you was actually dreaming you would have turned it lucid, however you'd probably of got that excited or freaked out it would ended straight away anyway haha
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Shît scary! I've only experienced sleep paralysis once but it was probably the most terrifying that I've ever encountered. As freaky as they seem they ain't that bad. It's natural, we all fear the unknown. But with understanding you could have induced a WILD (wake induced lucid dream) Possible halluninory images at 1st until you end up within a dream. If we didn't get sleep paralysis we'd all be playing out our dreams, walking about haha! Usually you get them when your body is relaxed but your conscious mind is still aware, therefore tricking the body into believing your sleeping - . Sleep Paralysis
Stadt Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Shît scary! I've only experienced sleep paralysis once but it was probably the most terrifying feeling that I've ever encountered.
ScouseFox Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Dreams are terrifying. I often dream about nights out after getting pissed on nights out and can never work out what happened in real life and what didn't. To this day there are a few things I genuinely have no idea if i've actually done or not. Also I read once that every person/animal etc you "see" in a dream is one you've seen in real life before, whether it be a friend/family or just someone you looked at on a bus once. Is that true?
NewburyFox Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Shît scary! I've only experienced sleep paralysis once but it was probably the most terrifying that I've ever encountered. I had that for a few nights sometime last year, around the time I had a fever. It's absolutely horrible. Fortunately one night I woke up drenched in sweat and whatever I had had broke. There's a fascinating thread on it somewhere on here.

Apparently a lot of what we see comes from our subconscious mind. However I've seen things there's no way I could of seen/imagined.
Captain... Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 I think we've had a few dream threads, and i still maintain other people's dreams are boring. Sorry.
BlooArmeh! Posted 31 December 2013 Author Posted 31 December 2013 I think we've had a few dream threads, and i still maintain other people's dreams are boring. Sorry. That's perfectly fine, old chap. We all have our interests. I personally find dreams very interesting, you can infer so much from someone's dreams - for example, my dream would perhaps suggest I'm quite conscious of the fact that I had a bad year of Christmas presents. I gave and got given shitty gifts.
BlooArmeh! Posted 31 December 2013 Author Posted 31 December 2013 Lucid dreaming and astral projecting/outer body experience... Familiar with any of these? Scary as owt at 1st but really rewarding! I'd love to know more about this - I've heard of it but never understood it. When I was ill once I had several dreams where I was awake in bed but unable to move at all. I was completely conscious but asleep and stuff... Totally bonkers. Is that anything like what you were saying?
BlooArmeh! Posted 31 December 2013 Author Posted 31 December 2013 I don't mind if it's just me replying to this thread. Last nights dream: I think worked in a phone shop, my boss was really rude but I didn't mind really, because I think she was treating everyone similarly. I don't think I was good at my job, but the customers were really kind to me for some obscure reason. One man said he'd take me out for lunch because I was so helpful - I politely declined. I think I should stop snacking before I go to bed.
Unabomber Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 I have experienced lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis a few times. Lucid dreams are amazing and if you are in control they can be on of the best experiences in the world, sleep paralysis on the other hand.. damn that shit is scary.
Unabomber Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 What are they, exactly?Lucid dreams are where you effectively wake up in your dream, and if you're lucky you stay there and become in control of your dream, meaning you can do whatever you like.Sleep paralysis is where your mind wakes up but your body is still asleep and you can't move. Sometimes you also hallucinate at this point (I saw a faceless shadow figure with a knife standing at my door watching me. I'm just forever grateful that my bed sheets remained unsoiled that night.
James. Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 I've had inception style dreams in dreams before (sometimes even going one layer deeper). Absolutely mental when you wake up and are convinced you're awake before realising you've only woken up into the first layer of dreaming and still need to wake up again to actually be properly awake.

I have 100% experienced the latter - although nothing very scary has happened, other than not being able to move. Lucid dreams sound amazing, but would you not be conscious of the fact that what's happening is not real? Doesn't that somewhat ruin the experience?

Sounds hellish. Have you ever had a dream in which you were at work or school all day? And then when you wake up you're knackered and you have to do it all over again? Not at all related to what you were saying, but incredibly frustrating...

To be honest I enjoyed it, it was the only upside to insomnia (it was mainly occurring when I had lots of issues sleeping). I also got lots of sleep paralysis (and still do) which isn't as much fun. I've had some incredibly mundane dreams before but can't say I've ever done a full day at work during one!

Rincewind Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 When I was in hospital I dreampt I was being held prisoner. i was being told to hide the pills which I did for a couple of days. I also dreampt Ithe hospital burned down and my family were calling out to me on plans to escape. Seemed so real. What do they give you in hospital to have dreams like that?

Yeah, false awakenings can be a bit trippy Especially when your convinced you're already awake but your not.

I've suffered with insomnia before - I had so many obscure potions in an attempt to 'cure' it. They gave me a few weird dreams, but most of the time they didn't work at all. My work dreams are the worst. It's like doing a 20 hour shift without a break.
