promised land Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Average attendance was 31k when we were last in the PL. Think there's definitely a case to be made for a small expansion if we look secure in the top division. Could probably be achieved by the introduction of Safe Standing though. So your business model is on one season ten years ago? People have a lot less spare money now than back then, ticket prices have shot up no end as well, plus it was only the second season in the new stadium so that would've pulled more in. Our stadium is big enough now and will be for the future, we are still a 2nd tier side in a small city, even with promotion we wouldn't get anywhere near 40k a game. Only the top sides would see a sell out anyway at our current size. Take Fulham in the cup, cheaper tickets than a league game, a Premier league side and we had less than a normal game. A league game against them wouldn't draw 32K into the ground because ticket prices would put people off. Oh and add in the fact at some point we'd get relegated again, we have ever since the club was formed, we're not a club big enough for a big stadium and dropping down with a 40k seater would look terrible.
Bryn Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 32500 is more than adequate. Even in the Premier League. We won't get 35k+ against the likes of Norwich, Palace, Hull, Stoke, West Ham.
fleckneymike Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Will be more than that mate have a look at our attendances last time round, best time to do it our best team for at least 10 years, inflation and economic growth is very low at the moment the sooner it is done the more of a long term investment it will be We averaged 31k. 10 years ago. The season before, when we enjoyed a season much like this, we averaged 29k. This season we average 23k. 6k fans have disappeared over that decade. There simply are not 17k fans hiding, waiting to return.

Population has increased and income and wages has increased since then too so there are reasons for growth as well as decline

davieG Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 I don't think income and wages have increased in line with the price of football. They have if you're a footballer

You make a good point, I think 2 reasons why it was much higher for that first season was because of the construction of a new stadium where all teams typically see a good first season and because we were at the end of a very successful era. I still think demand will shoot up again with promotion my reason for this is you have only got to look at the demand of the bigger games in recent years Watford in the play offs is the best example where we could have easily hit the 40,000 mark

I was a regular season ticket holder until 10 years but I'd highly doubt I'd bother again. I'd rather see the money invest in the team, oppose to the stadium being expanded.

I pointed it out as it's the best comparison we have. I didn't argue that I could prove an expansion would be a good idea, I just put forward a bit of information that suggested it might be.
