Babylon Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Who knows what they might do, lets face it we probably didn't think they would buy the stadium back, right off the £100m they spunked on players etc. These guys want us to be up there and to be big.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 No need to expand. Redeveloping SK1 to SK4 for a Safe Standing area when legislated for could potentially increase the capacity to 36-37k. Hows that work you still get the seated area you get now with safe standing. Then they put up a bar and lock the seat back. Safe standing will not increase capacity only expansion will increase it. C-Man said "when legislated for". So, if safe standing was allowed, the seats would by bolted up during league matches, meaning you get 1.8 people for every seat (hence the 36-37k figure). The seats would only be bolted down for European competition (so, in that case, the capacity would be ~32000 like it is now). Not that we have to worry about European competition any time soon.

Monsell1976 Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Agreed. I think original plans were to made to increase the size to 42,000 (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=824179c935503a0b087f70c6150aed7).I think they and the council will need to take certain issues into account before an increase in attendance would be allowed. The council will need to consider wether there would be enough parking with the increase, the disruption the higher attendance would cause to local residence, and the wider population, all of which are issues now, but are manageable. The club would have to get some sort of organisation in the concourse at halftime, as when it's full now, it near enough impossible to get a drink, use the toilet and move around, and to be fair it's just as difficult with mid 20,000. Like it's been said I think we need to be established in the premier league before they consider it, and I know that we can increase to 42000, but I don't know if planning permission was given at the time, or wether city would have to reapply.

Unless you're the Leicester Tigers
Nick Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Field of seats........"If you build it - they won't come"
Deucalion Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 If our stadium was to be expanded to 40k then I would be pleased. If there was no demand then the expanded parts of the ground could be kept closed, therefore not costing any more to staff and not looking unpleasant on TV. But, when we do have a big game, we can sell a few more seats and get a better attendance. I suspect that in the Premier League we would get several games a year where we could get over 32500. I remember when Filbert Street was closed, people were saying there was no point building a bigger stadium as we struggled to get 22k in the Premier League. Well...we have had an average attendance of more than that in every year the stadium has been open. If we build it, then they will come.
Vlad the Fox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 The council used to manage city's 32000 and Tigers 18000 up until a few years back. They killed that, used to be good boozing in the pubs those days with both sets of fans.
MooseBreath Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 No need unless we become established top-8. Even then the novelty would wear off and inevitable price increases would keep many away. Leave it as it is until it's full 80% of the time
Kitchandro Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 32500 is big enough for any team out of the premiership. With a few seasons in the premiership I could understand them bumping it up to 35000 but not 40000. If we were to come down again we'd look like Middlesbrough as people would clear off again. No we'd look more like Sheffield Wednesday if our ground was a nice one. Middlesbrough get about 14K (we've averaged at least 20K since we moved even in League 1) in a shitheap ground like ours. If our ground was given major redevelopment to make it into a nice, atmospheric stadium, I wouldn't really care if it wasn't packed every week. Rather have 32K out of 40K in a nice ground than a full 32K craphole. Averages and atmosphere are more important than the ground being full. Nobody cares that Hillsborough is never full, or Elland Road, everyone just bangs on about how nice and atmospheric the stadiums are, and nobody laughs at their club's attendances because they know that they are relatively good. Besides, 23K the other night, great atmosphere, 18 K against Fulham, great atmosphere.
Kitchandro Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 The ratio of rail seats to a normal seat is 1.8, so you're nearly getting double the amount of seats/ standing capacity for the same amount of space. TBH, in Britain I can't see that being implemented. It's a massive struggle to get them to accept that Hillsborough wasn't caused by standing, can you imagine putting forward the argument for cramming more bodies into an area of the ground?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 We rarely fill it now, what is the point in expanding the bugger?
fuchsntf Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Still early days I know, but this was the owners plans when they took over, it mentioned they want to expan the stadium capacity to over 40,000 if we gain promotion to the premiership. I know currently we struggle to get high end of 20,000's but i'm sure if we keep the run going we will soon be seeing a full house at the KP. We can sell out the big games in the premiership but you think we need a expansion? or 32,500 is more or less about right for our club if we gain promotion....still early days but I just remember what the owners 3 year plans were when they took over. Even at filbert street, in the best days, we struggled to get that figure consistently. Even with, Forest, Derby, Peterborough and Coventry wander-in fans. With modern tv coverage. 35k should be the maximum. The FA cup is not the draw it used to be, any top like Man city, Chelsea, just use the stats when we have played against premier opposition in the last few years, 40k no way.!!!!
Kitchandro Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 We rarely fill it now, what is the point in expanding the bugger? Because it's such an awful stadium. Expanding it is the only way we can make it look decent. Either that or knock a couple of stands down and completely rebuild them. In fact I'd love that to happen.

Loggy88 Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Don't need to expand if we get promoted. Stadium is big enough.
Jace Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Any of the stands can be expanded on easy enough as is a modern steel structure however the East stand would be by far the most cost effective, think 40,000 will be suitable for us with Premiership football
fleckneymike Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Every 1000 seats costs somewhere in the region of £1m pounds in stadium construction, we are 1st in the Championship and average 23k crowds so quite why anyone would be thinking of expanding the ground when we currently have 12k empty seats is beyond me. Only 7 sides in the Premiership average crowds of over 40k and with the greatest respect they are all 'bigger' than us.

It's because in the Premiership our attendance will increase many games would be sold out
fleckneymike Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 It's because in the Premiership our attendance will increase many games would be sold out Not enough to warrant investing £8m pounds on additional seats which might only be needed for maybe 2 games a season.
Voll Blau Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 No need to expand. Redeveloping SK1 to SK4 for a Safe Standing area when legislated for could potentially increase the capacity to 36-37k. Bingo.
sylofox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Knock it down and re build filbo with a 38k capacity and to modern spec
davieG Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 The only real justification would be if it enabled them to offer a more diverse range of admission prices where all seats in the North & South Stands for example were as cheap as chips e.g £10 - £15 on the gate on the day and no charging extra enabling them to significantly increase numbers. This increase could take time as they need to attract back lost fans particularly the young adult males from whatever it is they've now become accustomed to doing on match days.

Will be more than that mate have a look at our attendances last time round, best time to do it our best team for at least 10 years, inflation and economic growth is very low at the moment the sooner it is done the more of a long term investment it will be
