Mack Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 I woke this morning to a Sky News 'Special' Report on child prostitution in Brazil. Little kids as young as 8 and 9 inhaling glue, kids of drug addicts selling themselves to disgusting adults. The story is heartbreaking, however what is even more soul destroying to me is that there would be no 'Special' report if ti wasn't for the World Cup in Brazil this year. The media suddenly become motivated to find angles about the country, and display the huge disparity between have and have-nots in a place like Brazil. Why aren't these issues pointed out by media organisations to FIFA and other World agencies when countries like Brazil are bidding for the World cup? Why isn't it pointed out the huge cost would be much better spent on helping their own people out of complete abject desperate poverty than building huge stadiums that will be of use only for a few Football matches? Everyone has an agenda.... FIFA to line their own pockets.... The media to stir up scandal and trouble....... etc etc etc Is there any organisation, religion, media outlet, government that is not ****ed up these days?
Webbo Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 The building of the stadia creates jobs and the business created by the World Cup and Olympics will do more to eradicate poverty than handing out the money it costs.
Captain... Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 The problem is there is fvcked up shit everywhere, you can't report on everything all of the time. The focus, rightly or wrongly, will switch and sport is something that will change the focus. Gay rights in Russia has been highlighted with the Sochi games, Qatar's treatment of workers, homosexuals, etc Racism in the Ukraine, the problems in South Africa. There is only a finite amount of information we can process and handle, and interest and relevance changes. If you want to know about a certain country then the news is out there, we have greater access than ever to global information, but the media channels will focus on those issues that have the most interest. Can't see how it could be any other way.
MooseBreath Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Agree with both posts above. Bad stuff happens everywhere, including our own backyard. It kind of grinds me gears when fashion activists start going on about what's happening in countries they've never been to and know absolutely nothing about, when there's just as much crap going on in our own country. You want to find a story about some sick child prostitution in the UK - you can find it, no problem.
lavrentis Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 India also has a problem of child prostitution.
Guest MattP Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Terrible stuff but this goes on everywhere. We certainly can't crow about it, we had numerous people in positions of authority that turned a blind eye to it happening to our own citizens as they were scared of people being deemed racist.
Rincewind Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 You have to search for stories like this home and abroad. Although the home news may not be as horrific as this they should not be ignored.

bovril Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Basically what Moose and MattP said. As much as I abhore Putin's erosion of equal rights in Russia, it's ever so slightly ironic when you hear calls for boycotts. Like when we boycotted the Moscow Olympics in 1980 after Russia's invasion of.......*ahem*....
Mack Posted 5 February 2014 Author Posted 5 February 2014 Whilst I agree with all that is said above I would make the following point. The mass media agenda and the power of it is frightening. For example, right now there are atoricities occurring inside Europe in the Ukraine amongst other places and 2 very bad earthquakes on the island of Kefalonia just this past week that have left thousands without houses and living in their cars, yet all we get on the news is the odd bit here and there. The media should use it's undoubted power of spotlight and focus it on issues such as I mentioned above rather than devoting hours to the antics of Justin Bieber for example. It's ****ed up, for me. p.s. I also wonder how many fat, rancid FIFA delegates are enjoying Brazil's 'Hospitality'.....

Don't want to be picky but we didn't boycott the Moscow Olympics unless of course you're not referring to the UK or have i misread your post?

Dr The Singh Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 India also has a problem of child prostitution. Massive problem and it's socially acceptable in some parts, there are estimated over a million child prostitutes in Mumbai alone!!! Most are children kidnapped from poor families or sold by poor families, rising democracy my arse!!

Corruption to the hilts
Guest MattP Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Explain???? The Muslim peado gangs that were grooming Sikhs in the 80's to whites in the later 2000's
Dr The Singh Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 The Muslim peado gangs that were grooming Sikhs in the 80's to whites in the later 2000's There's a new term used for this behaviour, it's called 'love jihad'. Nothing racist, depending on how the arguement is represented it's actual facts!!

Corruption to the hilts Too right, it's been going on for centuries in India, there was a time when young women were sold, given or extorted by hindu priest (devdasi's) and sold as religious prostitution. There's numerous stories in India, priest having concubines of several hundreds of girls/women. Infact hindu temples were like olden day lap dancing clubs / brothels, young maidens were made to dance in temples to the amusement of hindu priest, the rest you can figure out. The people of that region have been exploiting the poor and there girls in the name of religion and now wealth for far too long A fact that the nations biggest icon/father of the nation got young girls to lie on top of him naked tell s a tale, and i'm disgusted we have that bold twats statue in our city.
Bayfox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 India also has a problem of child prostitution. Yeah but the media don't give ****........ Cuz the world cup isn't in india!!
