Guest MattP Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 As I've already pointed out though Ken, the very document you are telling us to read completely contradicts what you are saying about it. Which is why you should read things before posting. To get the full facts, ya know Pretty much what I thought after skimming through the document. Bizarre thread, What's the prize...............a night of poetry with Ken???? I'd rather win a swim in Barrymore's pool than that.

Smudge Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Kenny, you mention that someone "has to be from Leicester". The section of the pdf that relates to that statement is just a few short paragraphs and can be found on pages 11 and 12. I'd suggest you give it a quick read, it will only take a minute. Of particular interest to you will be the bit where it says any homeless person will be deemed eligible regardless of whether or not they're from Leicester. Maybe I need to read it again but from what I can see the paragraph is entitled "Leicester City Requirement " and what follows is a list of requirements of recent Leicester residence in some form or another. All that said, notwithstanding exceptional circumstances Edit. Having reread it I see that some non residents may be allowed to stay. apologies
Jon the Hat Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Damn. My plan to turn up in Leicester and claim housing are foiled by the fact that I haven't lived in Leciester for 15 years.
Merging Cultures Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 I've still not got my answers. MattP, how much do I owe?!
Guest MattP Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 I've still not got my answers. MattP, how much do I owe?! £11 - to be donated to a homeless guy of your choice over the weekend. £1 for a copy of the Guardian on Monday (Jack Munroe's recipe blog) and the other £10 to feed his family of five for the week.

I'll print some recipes off the her blog as the Guardian isn't available in print here... GBP10 would feed a family of five for a bit longer than a week too, average income is less than GBP20 a month

Forget your water being a contaminated death trap, malaria rampant, and a HIV infected population with an expected life expectaincy of 40, Fungi can't get a Stella and White Dee is struggling to pay this months credit card. Just got a late deal at Poundland, two cd's, think Gene Hackman is in one of them, not sure, says he isnt on the back but it looks like him, £1. Its actually music, not a film.

I've not seen Benefit Street, but I do feel I've watched the show after following your posts! The water here is a serious issue. It is a major export to South Africa thanks to one of the largest dams in Africa. But many locals do not have access to clean water. My daughters Nanny, who has been working with expats for many many years, she has over 20 yrs experience, only just got a pipe in her yard over Christmas (we gave her a bonus). HIV rates is the third highest in the world, about 25%. Lots of orphans and homeless kids as a result. No hostels to take them in. Food security is terrible due to poor quality of soil and local customs that do not promote best practice agriculture. However, when your only livelihood is your small plot, you are not going to take too kindly to others telling you new ways to do things. You stick with what you know. Unfortunately, no job centres to sanction all these people who are not applying for jobs. Lazy gits. I was talking to a guy last night who is setting up a cash transfer program for at risk families though. Malaria is the only thing we don't have as we are too high!! I am glad you got some entertainment for the weekend. I'm out with the wife to the only restaurant in town, probably cost more than a quid though!
Guest MattP Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Very informative, I'm off myself now for another weekend of binge drinking Enjoy your meal.

oxford blue Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 The allocations policy is similar to many other local authorities, Yes, it does not count living in a hostel as settled accommodation, but with a contract of employment (of at least 12 months) this barrier can be overcome. I think all LA's want to discourage people turning up as a rough sleeper, with no local links, hoping to secure accommodation. And there is a rent deposit scheme for those renting privately if arranged through the housing options team.
