Guest Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 There's reasons people like these films though. People want to see someone cool, to fantasise, to see someone get away with something, to see a plan come to fruition. The film/game/entertainment industry would be a pretty weird place if everything was just heroes. What makes him cool for you? He seemed like a sad loser to me which made the film that little better.
Haydos Posted 1 March 2014 Author Posted 1 March 2014 What makes him cool for you? He seemed like a sad loser to me which made the film that little better. He lived the high life, he was a player. He's definitely a loser and that's obviously the direction the film goes in. Those were all just examples though, not anything specific to that film, just things that can be applied to lots of thrillers/crime/gangster films etc.
Vacamion Posted 2 March 2014 Posted 2 March 2014 Just saw it this evening. I only had a rough idea of what was involved and giggled when the warning at the start of the film advised there would be "hard sex scenes". Sheesh they weren't wrong. Great film. Like everyone else, I thought it was a wee bit long but the 3 hours went a lot faster than they would if the film wasn't as brilliant. Having seen it, I feel a bit dirty. I probably have to go and watch Enchanted, the Muppet Movie or the Sound of Music to cleanse my soul a bit.
Bayfox Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Finally got round to watching this. I thought it was very funny, well directed, loved the complete highs and tragic lows, yet he just couldn't give it up, like the drugs, he was just addicted to the whole lifestyle, money etc. and having now seen the margot robbie scene I am now invoking the short skirt, high heels and no panties rule for my wife.
Beliall Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 awful film. i didnt like how it spoke to me like an idiot, or the gratuitous sex, and drugs. reading that back, it looks like an oxymoron when you consider other films i do like, but this wasnt done in a way i liked

bovril Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Didn't think it was great by Scorsese's standards.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 I find it incredible that one film can have so many differing opinions on it. Usually a film in the main is either liked or disliked. For me, it is the best film I have seen for years, perhaps it is because my morals differ from others but I would have loved to have been living their lives or at least certain elements of it. I would think that anyone who wouldn't must be quite dull.

I would think that anyone who wouldn't must be quite dull. I think many people would. But the fall is always the biggest and most brutal from the very top, so does it really make the high times worth it when you know one day it's all going to blow up in your face in spectacular fashion? I think Scorcese puts that across really well in many of his films.

Despicable morals in my opinion but a definite culmination of the capitalist Thatcherite ideals. I'd think that people don't have to be dull who don't like it unless you have a very narrow definition of "dull" And just to disagree on another point many films have so many differing opinions particularly science fantasy films.
