Corky Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I fooking hate short corners. Always shite Forest away last season, James's goal
Bert Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 It's so much easier to defend an in-swinging ball than it is an out swinger. The corner taking has generally been fine. If you don't get in the right position or attack the ball you're not gonna score from it.
MajorDanby Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I can't seem to score corners on FIFA. Everyone seem to score them against me tho! Bastards!
adamlcfcbevo85 Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I'd like to see a corner taken from middle of the pitch :-/
Istilllovefilbert Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I'd be far more worried if we relied on them. The fact that we are top scorers without them speaks volumes. Certainly rather we play like we do, than a team like Stoke, under Pulis
Babylon Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I believe it will be a bigger priority to put together a defence that's up to defending in the PL if goal scoring ability comes with that then that is a bonus. A strong defence and creative midfield/forwards should be our priority that's what I'd suggest Pearson is aiming for Agree with what you are saying, but considering how many corners we get we should look at improving that area still, and next year it will become even more imperative to take advantage of all attacking situations including corners. If we don't have a very big team, then we need to become more inventive in dead ball situations. Smart movement can make up for a lack of height, and that's where I feel like we never try and improve. Everyone lines up virtually the same way at every dead ball and it never works.
theessexfox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I read 'The Numbers Game' by Anderson & Sally whilst I was on holiday they said that in the Premier League a team, on average, scores goal is scored from a corner once every 10 games. It's not the end of the world if we're not scoring from a corner, because in recent times no one else is either... Was going to say this, they reckoned that you're statistically far more likely to score by playing it short and just passing from a corner than you are by putting it in the box.
Fox Ulike Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I read 'The Numbers Game' by Anderson & Sally whilst I was on holiday they said that in the Premier League a team, on average, scores goal is scored from a corner once every 10 games. It's not the end of the world if we're not scoring from a corner, because in recent times no one else is either... This. Apparently no-one scores very many from corners. Or set-plays. This is why Barcelona always take corners short. Slinging the ball into the box from a corner (with both your centre-backs up) leaves you more likely to concede a goal on the break than score. I mean, we have got what, 1 this season (Liam Moore against Wigan).
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Is it me or are there less goals scored from corners than there used to be generally anyway? Was thinking exactly the same thing. We are shitty from set pieces per se though (rarely score from free kicks etc).
Bagworthblue Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I'm just glad other teams aren't scoring from OUR set pieces this season. Often in previous years, upon getting a corner, it invariably lead to a clearance, a break and a goal in the opposite net :-)
Poiseuille Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Once St Ledger is fit we'll score loads from corners ðŸ˜
Poiseuille Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 It's a good trait to have though, being good at set pieces. The PL will be much tougher to score from open play, we'll hardly have the ball. Would be nice to have a bit of hope when it come the set pieces. In the MON days it was one thing that worked really well. Some games we were completely outplayed (as expected) but we'd get a set piece, cause fear in the opposition and score.
phillo Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 arsenal dont score from many set peices there doing alright
Guest Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 We do seem to be very poor at set plays on both attack and defence. And we have been for many years.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Even stoke haven't scored that many goals from corners this season
