Cincinnati Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 This is are one weakness going forward Not even an improvement with wasl in the side .
Webbo Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Is it me or are there less goals scored from corners than there used to be generally anyway?
Cincinnati Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Author Posted 16 March 2014 Every corner under MON and in promotion season with Adams , you just expected a goal
Tuna Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I think the worry is the problems opponents set pieces cause us. Look at yesterday for an example.
MGLCFC Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Does it matter - we're the leading scorers in the league - can't say I'm that bothered where the goals come from.
davieG Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Lack of Goals from set pieces especially corners are only a problem and needed if your not scoring enough from open play which are much more entertaining and ones I like to see. For me that's what football is all about.

Agreed you could see that was probably going to be the only they would score. They had a fair number of big players in their team except for the smallest man on the pitch.
Iwan is a Welshman Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 There was a thread on here recently about corners. People overrate set pieces as attacking options. They should be the easiest thing in the world to defend against, it comes from a dead ball where the defence get chance to get organised. Even piss poor Championship defences should be disappointed to concede from a set piece - against anybody.

Raj Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 yeah we really need to sort this out. we just ain't scoring enough goals.......oh hang on.....
Xen Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Right now we're getting plenty of goals from open play/penalties that it offsets the lack of goals from setpieces. However, once we're in the PL we'll find that we don't get as many opportunities to score from open play because the defenders we'll be up against are much, much better. So it's important we fix this, otherwise we could well struggle. Honestly, I've stopped expecting us to score whenever we get a corner or a free kick. It may as well just be given straight to their keeper for a goal kick or to throw out.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 We're not boring enough. Is that what you're trying to say?
Bayfox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 But the Premier League is on the horizon and set piece goals could be the difference between survival and relegation. Yep looking forward to terry, cahill and ivanovic in the same game.
davieG Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 But the Premier League is on the horizon and set piece goals could be the difference between survival and relegation. I believe it will be a bigger priority to put together a defence that's up to defending in the PL if goal scoring ability comes with that then that is a bonus. A strong defence and creative midfield/forwards should be our priority that's what I'd suggest Pearson is aiming for
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Barcelona don't score many goals from corners either
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 It's been a while since I've seem a goal from a corner in the premier league
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I think the worry is the problems opponents set pieces cause us. Look at yesterday for an example. Which is because Kasper doesn't command his box. He's a great shot stopper but he has this weakness and hasn't yet dealt with it.
ithuriel Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 True though, we are poor at scoring from set pieces, when we get corners and free kicks I do not expect a goal.
Narborough_fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I read 'The Numbers Game' by Anderson & Sally whilst I was on holiday they said that in the Premier League a team, on average, scores goal is scored from a corner once every 10 games. It's not the end of the world if we're not scoring from a corner, because in recent times no one else is either...
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 We are the top goal scorers, fill your glass that' are half full
Agent Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 It isn't about how many goals we're scoring from elsewhere - Jeez how many people on here are short sighted? Look at the big picture! Our record from scoring at set-pieces is pi$$ poor, it needs to be improved, whatever level of football you are playing at.
Jobyfox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 We are doing fantastically well and are the top scorers in the league. So this isn't a big problem at the moment. If we had someone in the team, however, who could deliver a really good set play it would give us another few percent. It might be the icing on the cake, but I don't think people should be pilloried for pointing out the weakness. Even if we are good enough to beat teams anyway at the moment.

Yes and people are saying that in general very few goals are scored from set pieces these days
bluesbrothers Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I think it shows how good we are that we have such a crap record from set pieces this year, yet we're still cruising the league with the best goalscoring record. If we can tune them up over the summer, we'll be the complete package. I'll stick my neck out and say that, with the pace Vardy and Dyer have and the problems they cause defences, the ability to convert free kicks could see us challenging for a top-half finish. Corners - forget 'em. We may as well play them short and whip them in, because defences seem to have sussed out direct corners in at least the top two divisions. edit: i accidentally a word
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I fooking hate short corners. Always shite
