Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 If Kasper does get awarded it Yeovil should be asking some questions as it wasn't given on the pitch. The ref said he gave the goal when Wood headed it in, the dubious goals panel debate dubious goals, they can't put a name to a goal that wasn't given on the pitch. It's clearly Wood's even though Kasper looks hard done by.
Sampson Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 If the ball had bounced clear do you think the ref would have conferred and given a goal, while being surrounded by foxes claiming one? It doesn't make any difference what may have happened, it didn't happen, he awarded the goal once Wood scored. Also, the ref can't stop the game to confer with his linesman on whether it was a goal or not, as there's been no offence or injury or stoppage such as the ball going out of play to stop the game for, the game was still going on. Imagine if he stopped the game conferred with his linesman and decided it wasn't a goal, Wood never would've scored the rebound because the game had been stopped and we'd have lost 1-0.
lewis20201 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubious_Goals_Committee According to this DGC is only for the Premier League. So for the Championship this would apply: There is no comparable body for other football leagues in the United Kingdom. In all other football matches in the United Kingdom, the identity of the goalscorer is determined by the club that scored the goal The OWS has given it to Wood in the match report, which I would expect it to stay his goal
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Nope. You can't effectively play advantage if you're not 100% sure if the ball crossed the goal-line or not. It's not playing an "advantage" at all. Referees take a few seconds to make decisions all the time. He might have had a suspicion, or he might have consulted with his officials, but allowing for play to go on removed the possibility of making a controversial decision.

Just that you made it sound like the referee is waiting for something to happen. I don't think the referee should think like that. If he thinks Schmeichel's header has not gone in, then he plays on. If play carries on, and someone else scores, it's technically their goal and doesn't go back to whether Schmeichel's header is in or not. The way you said it made it sound like if Wood hadn't followed up, he might have had a change of heart and just given the goal to Kasper anyway, that's all.
One Legged Beaver Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Since it's been given to Wood can the ref and linesman now be held accountable for failing to do their jobs? They were dreadful the whole night and that just summed it up
goose2010 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Confirmation from the FL that last night's goal has been credited to @officialcwood. Still a great header from @kschmeichel1, though!

Shame for Kasper, what a header it was! As for Wood, fair play to him. Good of him to head the rebound in, let's hope he can do more of the same, coming off the bench and scoring when we need him to.
