Guest Col city fan Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I imagine Drinky would be working hard to get as fit as possible for the prem. I'm very excited to see him play with the big teams. Fitness is no issue for Drinkwater. He's the fittest midfield player we've had for years. How to orchestrate a midfield who will be playing against teams that can kill you with one pass will be a bigger challenge.
Jonzey01 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 he won't get an england cap sadly, the england midfield looks set now with barkley, wilshire, ox, henderson for a few years now. Maybe he will make the squad, a la Joey Barton once upon a time

I just think with Danny, there is no limit.

Jonzey01 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 As you can see into the future can you let me know the lottery numbers for Saturday please,...jeez.. If that was classed as seeing into the future I worry for your state of mind. The statement I made was like saying "have you heard of that really good footballer Leonel Messi?" isn't this just a widely assumed point that most normal people with a brain in their head in the country have figured out that those players will make up our centre midfield. Or is Gerrard and Lampard going to run around on zimmer frames for the next 10 years? Or is it just deluded leicester fans like yourself who can't see this?

There's a bloke who plays for Barcelona with a very similar name though. He's called Lionel. Maybe they're related...?

Yes, it was a clear statement as if you knew/know its not going to happen, when you dont. Nothing deluded about it I just dont see how you can presume to know that that will be the case. The only delusional chap here is yourself for knowing your going to be correct.

Lets consider how boring england have been over the last few years, how long have Gerrard and Lampard been in the fold? who else has the ability to play there now other than those names, and therefore based on past mistakes its quite likely that will happen again. All of those players are better than DD sadly as well. I think that speaks for itself

All of those players are better than DD sadly as well. I think that speaks for itself I'm not sure people are starting a debate as to whether DD is better than Gerrard or Lampard as that would be stupid. What your forgetting is that future England players are likely to learn their trade in the lower league now as the Premier League is a different animal to when they came through the youth teams. It's ridiculous to suggest DD won't get an England cap, how many Southampton fans would have said Lallana would be going to Brazil in 2014?
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Why do people not think DD could be called up for England? It will depend on who becomes manager and what formation they play. DD is best as a holding midfielder. He's fit, quick, wins the ball and does the simple stuff very well. What he doesn't do (compared to Barkley for instance) is to get forward and carry a big goal threat. So if an England manager wanted to play a Diamond formation, for instance, DD and Barkley could more than happily play in the same side.

All it will take is one successful season in the Premier League, he will then be knocking on the door for a call up, including James and probably Vardy, that's if they carry on the form from this season. It's not unrealistic.

Stadt Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I think Matty is more likely to get more caps in the long run because if his age, they're both class.

Drinkwater has a better engine. The holding midfield types are surprisingly quick. Even watching the likes of Scott Parker in his pomp... he didn't half get around the pitch quick.

Schweinsteiger, Busquets and Martinez are all fairly slow and are some of the best holding mids in the world.

Buzzell Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Not at all. We'd need to stay in the Prem though. When I say 'successful season' I mean Drinkwater maintaining his form throughout the season, like he has this year, as well as staying up. If this is achieved after next season and Drinky has again become our heartbeat of the team, he will be knocking on that door for an England call up.

I genuinely believe DD could be called up in the next three/four years.
Buzzell Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Would be good to see for sure A bit of work to do yet mind you Ohh there's a hell of a lot of work to be done for sure. But with Drinkwater's performances this season, if he can maintain that sort of form next season and we stay up, who knows?
