Bagworthblue Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 When was it? It seems ages since we conceded from open play - Surely not Bolton? Either way - interesting to know how many we have conceded from open play this season - I'll bet it's not many! If anyone can be bothered :-)
bovril Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Blackpool? Ultimately came from a throw in but surely counts as open play.
LC/FC Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 This was mentioned recently in another thread. Can't remember which thread it was but it was after the Wigan game.
kingcarr21 Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Blackpool? Ultimately came from a throw in but surely counts as open play. was it a long throw???? If so i would class that as a set piece.
MooseBreath Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Kasabian will play a couple of songs before the match imo
LC/FC Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Watford. Everything else came from a static ball. Be it corners, freekicks, throw ins or penos.
Bagworthblue Posted 4 April 2014 Author Posted 4 April 2014 Watford - that's 9 full games and over 13.5 hours of play. Pretty impressive.
Captain... Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I like the positive spin on this, we are excellent defenders from open play (it's not that we are shit at defending set pieces).
Babylon Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I like the positive spin on this, we are excellent defenders from open play (it's not that we are shit at defending set pieces). I think I've brought up this stat the last three games... and I certainly didn't focus on the positive!!!! Reading through the Monaco thread I was whinging on about set pieces in that still
Bagworthblue Posted 4 April 2014 Author Posted 4 April 2014 I think all teams concede goals from set pieces - As the commentators pundits say when teams play against the top teams, 'their best chance of scoring looks likely to be a set piece' I am sure our players train for them every week but It does only need 1 good cross or one good shot on goal. I imagine opposing teams practice them even more when the next game up is Leicester as most game plans appears to centre around ...... 1] Park the bus 2] Hoof ball into Leicester territory 3] Try to win foul in opposing half 4] Nick goal from well rehearsed free kicks routine 5] Park bus. I don't think % wise we concede too many compared to how many we defend in total. I think they appear exaggerated because the relatively few goals we concede are predominantly from set pieces as we don't concede in open play. Imagine if we had conceded 30 more goals this season (none from set pieces) The set piece goals wouldn't stand out as much. But to not concede goals from open play in 9 games is pretty impressive
