foxoffderby Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Loved the Rooster. He just had the knack of being in the right place at the right time natural goal scorer
ceredigion Posted 10 April 2014 Author Posted 10 April 2014 I was in the Double Decker when he scored the injury time winner against Tranmere. The whole structure shook to the extent that some people thought an earth tremor was happening. (There'd been a few tremors in Leicestershire in recent years back then.) The TV commentary for the goal later on was great too. ''Russell tries a shot. Oh my word, he's scored in the 92nd minute.'' The rest of the evening is lost in an alcoholic blur. Come to think of it, most of the rest of that year is too.
coalville fox Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 But what about ian ormandroyd he was the 90's peter crouch
itsblueupnorth Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 I was 6 when my love for City started. Him and Tommy Wright were like gods to me! My first ever away trip was the Blackburn game when we played in the red away kit. Rooster scored the late winner and I can still picture everyone going mental! That whole away trip experience is what got me hooked....Learnt a few new words that day also! Spent the next few weeks running around shouting ROOOOOOOOOSTER! yes I remember that game - their keeper came out to clear the ball and kicked it straight at Rooster who ran the ball in to an empty goal right in front of us
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 yes I remember that game - their keeper came out to clear the ball and kicked it straight at Rooster who ran the ball in to an empty goal right in front of us Stuart Hall gave the post-match interview on the Beeb.. 'Leicester City at Ewood Park, blue and white ticker-tape and all'.. 'serendipity'.. The keeper was Mimms and we went utterly bonkers when Rooster just had to run it in. Our end, that day was real, old fashioned support. We never shut up from start to finish.

Even though that was my first season watching football and my comprehension of it probably wasn't that great I still recall the atmosphere at the end of that game being incredible. It's sad that the way that both support and players have gone in the last few decades means they'll never be cult heroes like the rooster ever again
ianormondroyd Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 But what about ian ormandroyd he was the 90's peter crouch I was better than him!
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 A mate of mine was at a wedding reception a couple of years ago, and Kevin was sat on his table. My mate txt me when he found out who he was and that he had played for leicester, and I got him to chant rooster at him across the table! Cult hero back in the day.
coalville fox Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 I was better than him! very true just a shame you never put a 3lions shirt on to show the world your class
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 Can people please include more than just an ex player's name in a thread title, every time I see one I think the player in question has died or something bad has happened. Is it just me or does anyone else think that? I did too, but that was after a mod had changed the thread title. The original title was Rooster and I thought it was a thread about potatoes.
Bluecityfox Posted 11 April 2014 Posted 11 April 2014 Blackburn away was the best away day of that era,the away end was went mental as rooster went through on goal.our mini bus was pulled over by the police on the way home because we had it literally bouncing along the main road out of Blackburn, half of us had to get off and into a police van to be replaced by two coppers and a giant Alsatian then escorted out of town,it was all good natured remember one of the coppers telling us he went school with Steve Walsh .
Neil_LCFC Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Was gutted that he left to go to Stoke who he had been on loan with earlier that season if I remember correctly.Especially as they were a league below us.
Vlad the Fox Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Didn't we offer him a new contract but he turned it down?
Neil_LCFC Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Yea I think your right he was fed up being sub most of the time.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Genuine cult hero. Happy memories of watching Rooster.
Shrenchel Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Loved it, one of our truly original songs. Pretty sure we nicked it off Arsenal? Crackin chant though.
