Bettsj2 Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 It's a decent side but without quality additions it's way too thin. Teams will see what a liability konch is and will target that side and tear us a new one. Then the Schluppenator will take over and rape said teams in the batty hole. No fvckers beatin ma Citeh.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Mark Albrighton came in straight the way to replace Dyer as a squad player. Your right with what you say about us looking a bit foolish in trying to get players and deals falling through... Maybe someone big in the backroom would help on the persuasion side of things, but if a player needs to be "persuaded" he doesn't deserve the contract... I want players that want to come here, Ulloa hasn't rejected us... He hasn't had talks with us and by the sounds of it he wants to leave Brighton for us. Campbell has had his head turned by Palace and probably a few other teams have come in for him. From a neutrals perspective Palace 'look' a better option than us. Tony Pulis with bags of experience in the Prem and how the finished the latter half of the season. This season is all about staying up... Forget the 'marquee' signing... Lets hold our position in the Prem and build. People need to stop sweating, Our squad right now is good enough to stay up... We have a solid first team. If James/Drinkwater had a long spell out, we would struggle for a bit but other than that... We are good enough! Wishful thinking . Our squad is not good enough stop up and the bookies know it. Hardly any of a team has any experience of Premiership football and when we start getting pasted week in week out through lack of investment the young players who did so proud last season will soon start to doubt themselves. They need Premiership quality around them , players who will steady the boat and pass on that experience. If the club can't see that then it will be a very short stay at the top table.
lc4lcfc Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 I genuinely think we only need a CM and a different type of striker. The case could be made for a left back (for what it's worth I think we could do with someone LIKE Naughton. I.e comfortable in either fullback slot) but even just those 2 quality signings would give us more options
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 The left back position is a particular worry. Konch wasn't good enough for the Prem and for most of the time wasn't good enough for the championship. Schlupp is not a natural left back and was only playing there for want of anyone else. If that position isn't filled with someone with experience it will be open house for all the teams we come up against. They will hit that area with pace or long balls and it will be our Achilles Heel.
Stan Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 It's amazing how we've transformed into a crap side in just a few weeks - all without kicking a ball.
foxfanazer Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Agreed Stan. I think a few of our players will surprise people with how well they step up. We are young, full of energy, have a great team spirit and some genuinely talented players

Beliall Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 It's amazing how we've transformed into a crap side in just a few weeks - all without kicking a ball. Our team is good enough for 17th as it is. Anything added is a bonus. We have seen the effects of keeping a team together dont need too many new faces

Don't think anyone has said we are a crap side. But our weak positions are up for debate. Some of them and the obvious one is left back need strengthening . With one or two quality signings I'm very confident that we will hold our own in the Prem, it's getting them in that appears to be the problem.

If we don't buy a centre half and a left back I would be very worried, our defence was suspect last season, god knows how we will cope in the prem.

I thought the same, but are we all unduly panicking? Was it really THAT suspect. What was it, the third best defence in the league or something like that. And we've signed the player of the year centre back that played for the second best defence in the league.

The pressure was off our defence last year as we controlled large parts of games, the difference next year is we won't ,and it's how we cope without the ball that worries me,even though as you said we had the 3rd best defence....I hope I am wrong but I was never really convinced about us at the back.
1972 Fox Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Isn't this supposed to be a thread about Charlie Austin?

After everything I have said about not needing players. I agree with this.... We are great on the ball but off the ball we looked a bit shaky at the back. I dont think we will change the tactics from what we had last year, I think we will still try and dominate the tempo & possesion of games.

Don't think we are going to try that against the top sides they would eat us for breakfast, hence the repeat bidding for Ulloa . For a majority of the games we will play with one up front out of necessity. Lets be honest we are not going to have possession of the ball anywhere near as much as we did last season. So that leaves us off the ball quite a bit and as you said Carlos we do look a bit shaky at the back.

Was that not because we went all out attack for most games? You are going to leave gaps who you try and outscore everyone, we aren't going to try that in every game next year.
Carlos88LCFC Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Worth keeping this thread open now? Think hes just ruled us out! .@chazaustin9: "I'm happy to be at Loftus Road. I'm not going anywhere." #QPR
