MC Prussian Posted 22 July 2014 Posted 22 July 2014 Former St. Pauli player Andreas Biermann committed suicide a few days ago, after battling with depression for several years: http://www.thelocal.de/20140721/footballer-andreas-biermann-commits-suicide-depression
Guest ttfn Posted 22 July 2014 Posted 22 July 2014 Absolutely tragic. It's hard to comprehend the depths of sorrow that fill the head of somebody with depression, particularly to the extent that they have come out and talked openly about it in the past before falling back in.
Voll Blau Posted 22 July 2014 Posted 22 July 2014 So sad, especially for someone who had the courage to talk about his problems while still a pro. Take a hell of a lot of courage.
Nalis Posted 22 July 2014 Posted 22 July 2014 Tragic but if the report is true in saying that he is a father of two then its a selfish act.
Voll Blau Posted 22 July 2014 Posted 22 July 2014 Tragic but if the report is true in saying that he is a father of two then its a selfish act. Of course it is. Suicide is the most selfish act anyone can commit by its very definition. I can't envisage how bad a place he must have been in to leave two children fatherless.
MPH Posted 22 July 2014 Posted 22 July 2014 Tragic but if the report is true in saying that he is a father of two then its a selfish act. I cant believe im biting, but you do realize that people who take their own life are not in their right mind don't you?
ozleicester Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Seriously? a selfish act? Can you possibly imagine what must be going on inside a mans head that he decides, with family, friends, and people who love and care about him all around...he still feels that he can no longer cope...or that the world would be a better place without him.

Agreed
Nalis Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Correct, we don't know what his state of mind was. I have friends who have suffered from depression and its not as understatement to say its a illness. But in terms of taking one's life, I'm not sure how many of you have seen the damage and destruction caused by a suicide in the family. The unanswered questions, the helplessness... I cant even put it into words ( could go into essay mode here but I'm on a phone). That's just my opinion.
stripeyfox Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Tragic but if the report is true in saying that he is a father of two then its a selfish act. I think that is a gross over simplification of the situation. Those left behind will no doubt at some point feel anger as well as many other emotions. But that doesn't mean he was selfish. It is a lack of options. It isn't a "choice" - the person feels as if they don't have a choice. Read "A Life Too Short - The Tragedy of Robert Enke" by Ronald Reng for the tragic story of another German footballer who took is own life.
