Match Ratings : Déjà Vu As Wes Morgan Leads By Example Again

lcfcratings.wordpress.com

There was a significant feeling of déjà vu at the King Power Stadium on Sunday as Leicester claimed a creditable draw against recent Champions League qualifiers Arsenal. City conceded their goal in the 20th minute, the same minute in which Everton's first came on the opening day; Ulloa equalised in the 22nd minute, the same minute he equalised on the opening day, and Wes Morgan was rated as City's best player for the second time, the first coming on...the opening day. Morgan and Moore were both again instrumental in keeping Arsenal's creativity at bay with Moore also making the top three, while Leo Ulloa was sandwiched between the centrebacks in 2nd place after a fantastic box-to-box display which saw him claim his second goal of the season.

It was tough to be critical of any players on the day after another energetic team display earned City an impressive point. Marc Albrighton's rusty half-hour was enough to see him rated lower than anyone else, with Dean Hammond the lowest rated starter, most likely due to Arsenal's dominance of possession in midfield. It sums up the level of City's display that Kasper Schmeichel was also in the bottom three with a rating over 7, largely down to the fact he had very little to do of any significance with hardly any of Arsenal's 24 shots causing him any grief.

The City fans were not particularly impressed by Arsenal, who have since listened to the cries of their supporters at the King Power to "buy a ******* striker" with the arrival of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United for £16m on deadline day. While the Gunners' faithful made it clear that they believed the problem was in attack with Yaya Sanogo in particular unimpressive, their creative midfield trio of Mesut Özil, Alexis Sánchez and Santi Cazorla were largely kept under wraps by City's impressive back four despite the 68% possession.

The officials led by referee Anthony Taylor received a typically average rating, with both sides having a case to be slightly aggrieved at a number of minor decisions throughout the match. Finally many supporters will be glad to see that Pearson's approval rating has returned closer to the level it was prior to the Shrewsbury defeat, although there were still a few extra 'Go' voters than after Everton and Chelsea. However hopefully the deadline day signings of Nick Powell and Tom Lawrence from Manchester United will allay the fears of many after Shrewsbury that the squad lacked the necessary depth to compete.

thanks

surprised how low Kasper was in comparison. He wasn't really at fault for the goal, thought he had a great match.

He was solid, but didn't save anything he shouldn't his distribution was the usual mixed bag, didn't do anything special to warrant higher than a 7 mainly because of the heroics in front of him not that he did anything wrong.

Would be good to be able to rate Pearson out of 10

I meant to include that and totally forgot. It will be on for the Stoke game.

I love these! Would be interested to see an average rating after every 10 games or so.

Not sure if you had planned that already or not!

There will be summary reports/awards each month, at the end of the season and probably at the half way point too.

I didn't give him a good rating, he doesn't fill me with confidence, thought he ended up in no man's land a few times.

Ulloa was fantastic, all over the pitch in a good way, did a fantastic header out of defence and a half volley and chased players down to get the ball, if only he had scored that second goal instead of hitting the side netting :)

Wes Morgan has been ****ing immense so far. I don't know why people were doubting that he would step up to the prem but he's showing his class now.

Forest fans for you. Seen one person saying that he got outpaced at Rotherham for them a few years back which meant that he wouldn't be able to cut it in the premier league, bunch of freaks.

I don't know how Kasper could have got a higher mark because bar the Sanogo save, he had nothing to do!

It depends, does a player start with 10 and lose marks, or does he start with an average like 6 or 7 and lose/gain from there. Personally tend to go with the latter so Kaspar didn't have enough to do to get a 9 or 10. Decent distribution a couple of times though.

Yeah id say the latter. Start with a 6 if a player does their job, the below or above depending on how bad/good they were
