The Blue Moon Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 I'll give you that, sounds like a chant of tooooooooooooon during the applause. That's the family stand side from the east stand side I saw a couple of Leicester turning and applauding, the majority looking bemused by wtf was going on and a handful openly booing, giving the willy puller sign etc. Therefore I assumed booing noise coming from Newcastle was booing our lot, may have been a bit of both.
Fox4ever76 Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Twats. Don't understand why anybody would do that. Bernie is sort of exempt because he's genuinely mentally ill. do you know this for certain?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 How on Earth you can attempt to justify the behaviour is beyond me. Aye, I'm sure there were some Newcastle fans abusing Leicester fans - as there were probably Leicester fans returning the favour. But there is a strong, strong difference in celebrating and mocking the deaths of two well known and respected supporters. If you honestly believe the response that you have written you are clearly not a football supporter, nor are you a normal human being. I said quite clearly we do not expect any other supporters to join in, but we also do not expect supporters to stand mocking the deaths of John and Liam. The difference between these two supporters and 'any other death' is they died on their way to support their team in a pre-season friendly in such horrific circumstances. Sometimes in football you have to stand up and accept something is wrong. You are right, if any City fan did in fact mock the deceased, in any way, then they should be horse whipped, and banned for life from the KP.
melrose Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 do you know this for certain? You obviously haven't met him then!
Soup Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 The deaths were tragic - I've not for one second disagreed with that. I'm just not sure that a weekly one minute tribute which you go to no lengths to tell opposition clubs about, despite repeating it on a weekly basis home and away, is the best way of commemorating it. And if Newcastle is mourning two well-known fans, then I wholeheartedly sympathise, but this is a shambles of a commemoration which you've chosen to impose on every other set of fans in the division. The problem with public expressions of grief like these is that a lot of people won't like it. You can't defend people disrespecting the memory of those fans, but what the 'aeroplane gestures' (if they happened) meant, was that some people didn't like the nature of your tribute. It doesn't mean they were glad that those fans had died. And when you place that in the context of a football match atmosphere, where your fans are dishing out plenty of unacceptable abuse of their own, and you bear in mind that you take up a minute of every single game with this same tribute, you can hardly be surprised. It's not a million miles from the Princess Diana jokes back in 1997. The people who made those jokes weren't glad to see her dead, they just found the reaction to her death over-the-top. They disrespected the nature of the tribute, not the loss itself. A lot of those jokes were more sophisticated than the aeroplane gestures you describe, but the mind-set is similar. You can't use the argument that you are 'not asking anyone else to join in' with your tribute. Because your tribute doesn't take place at a private place where mourners gather. It's happening in the middle of a football game, and everyone else has to listen to it. You've chosen to grieve in public, and you can't expect people who will have had to suffer losses of their own, many tragic, many of which will have been LCFC fans, to want to share in this. On top of that, the clear implication in your original post was that our fans in some way stood out for their failure to respect this tribute. You felt the need to register on here to share this with us. And you distinguish between a fan making a disrespectful gesture towards your fans, and your fans being physically threatening towards our fans. Why not respond to the post about abuse towards our fans by saying 'that's terrible, but this type of thing happens... look what two of your fans did during our tribute to the MH17 victims?' No, it had to be all about Poor Newcastle. But Newcastle fans are fast developing renown for being unreasonable, demanding, self-pitying and, generally speaking, counter-productive for their club. From an objective viewpoint, it's interesting to see a whole body of people look so totally thick and simultaneously rubbish at supporting their club. They are increasingly seen as a joke, and understandably so. It might be worth you considering this before you bring your bubbling sense of outrage onto another club's forum. As for tributes, I'll respect them. But try organising them properly, and perhaps doing it on an anniversary rather than every week. Because at some point in time the tribute is going to descend into farce, gradually fizzle out, and seem a lot less respectful than simply holding a single, straightforward minute's silence, or a private tribute in a more appropriate place than an opposition club's football ground. Imagine what a disaster Remembrance Day would be if it happened every single week, without half of the people present even knowing when or how it was going to be commemorated. The best post I've ever read on this forum ever, and I mean no disrespect at all to the victims,or close family and freinds.
Monsell1976 Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Saw and heard the applause and wondered what it was all about, the idiots who made the plane gesture's obviously knew what it was about....that's the differance between the majority of our fans and the idiots.Agree Paul, about 23-24 thousand there Saturday, two dick heads do not represent leicester, leicester city, or man kind.Newcastle have decided to celebrate the life's of their fans in this manner, but has had been said none of us knew what was going on, I know they had done it at home, which was reported in the TV, but didn't realise they are doing it home and away all season. Knowing what I know now, I would have no issue clapping with the Newcastle fans, when we play them in the league, take away football rivalries, we all go to football matches, and don't expect to not make it home again.

promised land Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 What a bad view you get from the family stand in the winter with a low setting sun. Unless the camera has magnified it more. The kop needs to be a double decker to block it out.
NUFC Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 You need to get over yourself mate. The part in bold is embarrassing, not to mention completely logically fallacious (look up No True Scotsman). You lot and Liverpool fans are cut from the same cloth; mawkish and eagerly self-pitying, insistent that the rest of the country indulge your maudlin public displays of grief at your behest whenever you decide it's appropriate. If a couple of people did an aeroplane gesture, then you'll find lots of people agreeing with you that it's a tasteless thing to do. But worth, as you have said, being banned from every football match as long as they live? You're on a different planet mate. Look, people dying is very sad and I feel terribly sorry for the family of the deceased. Believe it or not, Newcastle isn't the only club whose fans have died; literally every club has a history of in-ground mid-game deaths, devestating tragedies, and awful accidents around the world involving fans. But it's only you lot and the scousers who seem to demand this perpetual and ubiquitous mourning process from everybody else. Somebody made a tasteless joke about somebody you half-know dying? Deal with it. The last sentence of the part in bold is just bizarre, when a friend/relative of yours passes away - I'd love to see your reaction if someone comes up during a memorial and says "haha isn't it hilarious - deal with it" If you had bothered to read my original post, I clearly stated that we do not expect opposition fans to join in - we just do not expect fans to opening mock it. I never suggested they should be banned from every stadium, nor did I come on here ranting and raving about it. As I originally said, I posted on here as there were several people asking why there was an applause, why there was boo'ing etc. I simply answered those questions. With regards to the above part in bold... I'm fully aware a lot of people die, but not once have we demanded everybody else joins in with the mourning process - the very fact that 90% of your supporters had no idea about it shows just how little we care if you join in or not. If we did demand you joined in, do you not think we'd have made a big deal about it before the game? We've never suggested to any opposition supporter that they must join in, therefore your points are completely inaccurate. You are very defensive about the whole situation, as I've said all along it was a very, very small minority. If I came on here kicking off about your entire support, slagging you off and moaning consistently then I would understand your reaction. The deaths were tragic - I've not for one second disagreed with that. A lot of your post also applies to the above comments I made. As for the whole "tributes" thing, I feel any supporter or group of supporters should be able to respectfully make a tribute in any way they wish. At the start of the season it was decided we would applaud John and Liam for the entire season home and away - it will fizzle out on the last day of the season. But they supported Newcastle all of their lives, we can support them once a week for 9 months if we choose. If we wanted or demand you to be included, we'd of notified you - we did not at any point and never have. There are several stereotypical traits the press lay on about Leicester fans, but I haven't came on here to be abusive/moan/kick off/cause an issue - your opinion on the club, the fans and everything else is irrelevant in the conversation we were having. I registered (As I've said many times, and again, in my original post) to advise on what the applause was about, I also advised on why some Newcastle fans boo'd. I did not register on here to kick off, moan or have a go at Leicester fans - something I do not think you seem to understand. Yourself and one or two others are very defensive based on one comment made about two of your supporters. The whole "two fans might of done that BUT OMG YOUR FANS WERE HORRIBLE TO KIDS" is quite school playground, as I said I do not and never have condoned any crap behaviour from Newcastle fans. And if I ever witnessed it myself, I would tell them where to go (which I and other Newcastle fans have done on many occasion). If you re-read my original post, you may realise that informing you of the actions of those two supporters was not expecting you all to lead a witch-hunt but was a side note and an explanation to a question raised by your own supporters. When we play you in May, I'd be more than happy to come and explain further over a pint - because football is not about "your fans are crap, your fans did this, your fans did that", it is about watching your team, supporting your team, and in our case most seasons... crying yourself to sleep.

How's that the same as a football match? How many games have passed since these lads lost their lives? (not to belittle it). Something that happened 6 months ago, with no word from your fans about anything planned, why should Leicester fans have to behave a certain way? Move on, wait until the next away game, do the same, don't inform the fans and see what response you get.

It is absolutely the same - those supporters knew 100% by their actions, what the applause was for. Therefore it would be exactly the same, if they laughed during a memorial making the same gestures. "Move on, wait until the next away game, do the same, don't inform the fans and see what response you get." When will you understand we don't ask or demand a gesture, we just request that the above never happens - not too unrealistic or asking too much.
5waller5 Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 I've heard it all now. A chant that sounds like a boo during a minute's respectful applause, yeah that must've been it pal. Yes how utterly ridiculous .... a chant of Tooooon during their own applause ..... Maybe you should be a little less aggressive and a little more open to someone telling you what they saw / heard???? Although reading your other posts i don't expect that to happen.

There's already been a Newcastle fan on this thread who said some booed due to the plane gestures and I personally saw Leicester fans booing it and calling them Geordie wankers. So yes, it's clear from the video there were some chants of toooooooooon but fact remains there was some booing. Depends which side of the fence (literally) you were on.
