Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I think it'd actually enjoy it more second time around, I went in with such high expectations they were probably never going to be met.

Agree on the first scene, was disappointing. Also, is it just me, or were the shots of ships in space actually less realistic looking that was they made almost 40 years ago?

I think you're probably spot on with the first part. Because of the great reviews from people on here and, well, everywhere, I thought it was going to be a cinematic masterclass, and that's probably why I felt a tad disappointed. Watching it a second time would probably give me a better all round feel of it.

The wording etc on the opening credits as it scrolled back just seemed so amateur for a start!

lol I got that feeling too. Definitely with your other point regarding the CGI scene too, urgh. Though I guess that's just part of some films these days, you've got the fill the budget somehow, so just stick some CGI filler in.

A few people at work have watched it. Some like it some don't. The ones who do are the ones who don't watch many films and have generally got crap taste in everything. Anyone who has any taste is saying it's diabolical.

Went to see it last night, thought it was a good film overall. I can see why some people wouldn't enjoy it though, especially people who aren't especially fans of the star wars films.

The only downsides I can really say is that a lot of the film feels like you've seen it all before and the plot twists don't really come as any surprise

We should probably make a spoiler thread so people can actually talk about the film that have seen it

For a Star wars film it is good. The action scenes were generally of a high quality. I really like the sound design on the weapons made them seem to have some real punch to them. The film was just too fast for my liking and I didn't like the design of Supreme Leader Snoke (assuming he is as large in real person) and how fast Rey 'developed'.

Found this a little odd too, although...

I think it's pretty heavily implied that she is some relation to either Han and Leia, or Luke, especially after her flashback scene that was uncannily similar to Luke's flashback scene he has in The Empire Strikes Back. Would not surprise me in the slightest is she ended up being Luke's daughter who was hidden away from the new order to avoid her being seduced like Kylo was. The flashback scene also includes a shot of her screaming at a ship not to leave as a child, implying she was left somewhere by her parents.

Some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy and some of the acting was a bit off. But name me a Star Wars film where that hasn't been the case? I don't get people who are fans of Star Wars and get annoyed by such things, it's all part of the appeal to me.

When they came out I was a child and didn't know any better, I probably don't notice it in the first three films due to my love of them (I'd argue there isn't that much of it anyway). As a 30 something, I don't really like bad acting and I don't see what it can possibly add to any film.
