Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I love the fact it looks and feels like the original Star Wars, in a way the prequels didn't manage, it's clearly been made by a Star Wars fan, I just hope it delivers.

Going in a few hours, wont spoil but will say how I rate it after I get back from viewing.

Hopefully we can keep this thread spoiler-free at least until the weekend

I still think Lucas just got far to comfortable and lost the hunger, passion or whatever.

You compare the ones he did when he was younger to the last three and they just are sadly lacking, Jar Jar effing Blinks, :@

Just got back, thought it was pretty good.

Takes a little time to introduce the new characters but it is paced quite well.

I'd place it as the third best Star Wars movie, so better than Return of the Jedi and the prequels.

No spoilers though :P

Really liked it! Lots of spoilers I could say but will try and refrain from doing so. Loving the new characters, thought Rey was dodgy at first but once she was in scenes with others she became great.

Very happy with Kylo as well, much better being back to having a deep, sinister villain rather than the expendable one dimensional ones in the prequels. Overall very impressed

Absolutely buzzing, still, thought it was fantastic. Lots of highlights, thought it was a very well paced movie, the score was exceptional as always. Will not spoil anything but for me it was better than I was hoping it was going to be and I had pretty lofty expectations.

Fuuuuuck I couldn't stop smiling the whole way through. I'll need to watch it a few times to know how good it really is compared to the rest but it had pretty much everything I wanted. The Star Wars I know and love felt like it was back, the atmosphere, emotion, music, comedy and tension were all there, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Are we going to retitle this a spoilers thread now?

Is it just me that cant stand Star Wars. Absolutely terrible movies.

Saying that though I feel like I am obliged to go and see it. Even though I don't like Star Wars I feel like I HAVE to watch it. Very strange as no other film series has ever made me feel like this.

I guess the global dominance of Star Wars influences even me. Fair play to Disney. They took a gamble on the rights to it. Everyone knew if they get the film spot on they will make a shit load of money. I've only heard good things about it. I was born in the 80s so I guess I never liked Star Wars cause I wasn't around when they were first released.

Nah, that's not the reason. You might just not be into camp space sagas with some seriously cheesy lines and generally poor acting.

I'm from the 80s too and quite enjoy Star Wars, mostly for the graphics and sound effects, as well as the epicness of it.

Storywise, it's not too dissimilar to the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. It's a classic story which offers few surprises which appeals to many.

NO..... no spoilers at all in here people unless you can use the spoiler tag to blank them out!

I'd welcome feedback from anyone that takes small children to see it - I really want to take my lad, who's 4, and though I'm not worried about the violence or anything like that, it would be good to know if it can hold the attention of someone that young - it's quite long, innit?

No kids but I think he deserves to see it. Nostalgia plays a huge part in it for me because I grew up watching the Star Wars original trilogy on VHS over and over but I'd have love to have been part of the hype and seen it on the big screen when it was originally released.

It's sci-fi, if kids can't tell the difference between video games/films and real life they have much bigger issues in my opinion. I'm sure if he's raised well and you have a chat with him to introduce him to this kind of thing it could be a great bonding experience for the both of you. If he's lucky he'll grow to love the world as much as a lot of us do.

Wha?

The LotR trilogy (in book form, rather than the movies) is one of the greatest pieces of genre fiction ever made, the forerunner of practically every piece of popular fantasy fiction since. Star Wars is decent space opera with ideas that were repeated many times before it and have been many times since. There's nothing to compare between the storylines of the two.

I meant the movies, not the books  Apologise for not being clear about that.

I saw The Empire Strikes Back at the cinema when I was about 5, and don't remember a massive amount about it, but I don't think I was a massive pain in the arse or anything.

I'll think I'll chance it.  Just have to hope he doesn't get too engrossed and then piss himself.

I'd love him to get really into it, but there's a lot more competition for kids' attentions now than there was when the original ones came out, so we'll have to see.  Chewbacca's in the new one, so we'll have half a chance as that's his favourite character at the moment.

I'm also excited to see which one of my relatives is first to pass an inappropriate comment when they see one of his presents is a black action figure.  The very thought!  Might have a sweepstake
