Nalis Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Surprised no one has started a thread on this but its 6 Nations time again. Maybe the buzz isn't as huge as its been in previous years due to the world cup being this year's main event? England and Ireland are somehow joint favourite despite being decimated by injuries, Wales are in transition whilst no one has a ****ing clue what France will turn up. All in all, I reckon it will be another tight affair. Can see Wales, England and Ireland winning 4 games each with England nicking it on points difference.
notnow john Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 A full strength Wales,at home should be far too big and strong for England's shadow team.
Finnegan Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 We should win it outright, I'm very surprised we're not bookies favourites. No excuses if we lose tomorrow (although I think it'll be close) and we've also got Ireland at home. France are garbage and if we avoid the banana skin in Scotland we should be looking at 4 wins minimum. If England were full strength then all three of us (England, Ireland, Wales) you could stick money on. But with England's availability? Can't see it. Apologies if this comes across as arrogance, I'm actually not unwaveringly confident, but on paper at very least it should be clear cut. I'm not sure what part of the Wales side anyone could actually claim is in transition. Champions twice in the last three years with a first choice, stable, established, side that hasn't changed much under Gatland. Only possible weakness being that consistency in selection. Liam Williams and Scott Williams are the form players in Wales but Cuthbert and JD2 are in anyway as Gats likes his consistency.

France I think will be slightly better than most people are giving them credit for and England for me have too many injuries and returning faces to win it (They also didn't look like they were in the right physical condition as a side during last years internationals.) Hope it's close and good rugby though.

Told her I'll be supporting France OBVS. We're not watching the match together tomorrow - we did last year which was a lot of fun...

Stop being nice to them just because you're on their forum. Their chosen fly half is crocked, their centres are all crocked, they're down to fourth and fifth choice locks, they're fielding a bunch of debutants and after all of that they have to go to Cardiff AND Dublin. Don't get me wrong, all three home nations (forget the Sweaties, they don't count) could win. But it'll take a monumental effort for England to win and they'll deserve everyone's respect (and they'll get mine) if they do. Anyone citing them as favourites is doing so for populist sakes or by reputation. If England win this year it'll be as big a shock as us winning in 2005. Probably more so.

If I was being arrogant, I would say Ireland would retain the 6 Nations but given previous experience cautious optimism rather than euphoria is more our style! Either way, I just hope tonight's game lives up to expectation!
Finnegan Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Ireland are a strong shout, especially given they treat Cardiff like a home game - much to our dismay. But given you've got to come here and you've got your own injury problems, I'd expect us to win. We all know sport isn't played on paper but if you look at availability, you look at history, you look at the fixture list? No excuses if we don't win the lot. I'm not saying we will. Not at all. Only that we should be the favourites and need to be able to live with that expectation. Last year we didn't, we looked limp wristed and arrogant and we choked. Can't see that happening twice. I'll be furious if it does.
Guest MattP Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 In the spirit of his appearances in the cricket thread I'm just coming in here to tell Finners we are going to beat them and to tell him I'm taking the piss when we do or completely pretending I didn't watch if we don't.
AndWhat? Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 I've lived in Wales now for 4 years and it still shocks me how up for these matches the Welsh get. The pubs are ****ing rammed!!

Its one of the best times of the year sports wise for pub craic in my view. Randomly heading back to Belfast the weekend Ireland play England, can't wait.

MooseBreath Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Christ the build up to this is dull. It's rugby, nobody knows the rules, the physically strongest team wins. The Welsh love it because they're crap at everything else. To everyone else it's a 2nd rate sport that provides an excuse for a few beers. What else needs to be said?
MooseBreath Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 This light show with a gangster rap soundtrack is really in the spirit of the game. Such culture.
MooseBreath Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Fair play though that does look pretty good.
BlueSi13 Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 ****in Nora, would England have made this much fuss for a game against the Welch at Twickenham?

FoxyPalace.com Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 The welsh are a funny lot, Another country nothing without the might of London behind them, Thats where all the cash is made!
Finnegan Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 ****in Nora, would England have made this much fuss for a game against the Welch at Twickenham? Since the WRU started getting a bit ott at Cardiff, England have responded in kind with fireworks and giant red crosses on the pitch, etc. It's a bit ridiculous to be honest but the crowd obviously enjoy it and, at the end of the day, sport is an entertainment industry. What matters is what happens on the pitch though and both sides kknow that.
