I'm not in debt but I paid £500 in interest last year to help repay the national debt...which was nice! I give to charity, but I like to choose which charities I give to, usually home grown ones...but I paid £82 towards foreign aid last year....thanks for asking! I haven't used my GP or Hospital in the last year but I still paid £3096 towards health and welfare. I also don't have any children at school and don't go myself but I still contributed £938 for the privilege of sending your kids to school. Meh

Thankfully your NI and NHS contributions mean the day you ever get a serious illness or old age finally catches up with you you'll be taken care of. And if your care costs hundreds of thousands of pounds in market terms, that's fine because everyone is contributing so people will get equal treatment no matter what. But no wait, who is going to take care of you when you're ill. That's because no-one has paid for education meaning we have a small elite, not enough nurses, doctors and people whoa are educated to a level to take care of you. You go on like you're the only person in Britain paying these taxes and propping up the NHS and education system by yourself. I'm pretty glad you don't have a choice and are paying, because you're helping the future generation and people who need healthcare with these. You can be brazen about your health as much as you want but unless you're run over by a bus, or another tragic instantaneous death, then you will utilise the NHS at some point before you're in a box. Maybe if you got your head out of your self-absorbed backside you'd see that these taxes are for the greater good?

No the day old age catches up with me they make me sell my house to pay for residential care. I have no objection to paying something but to pay more than it would cost me to take out private health insurance is a joke. I feel those that don't use the services for a sustained period should also get a some kind of refund. All this tells me is that teachers and medical staff are overpaid and quite often don't deliver. I've always supported the NHS but to now know how much of my taxes goes towards keeping it afloat then it's about time we privatised the whole bloody thing. £60 a week for something I don't use is criminal.

We talk about paying in to receive care when we are older but the reality is the money isn't saved for that at all and by the time most of us get there we can be safe in the knowledge our houses, pensions and savings will be being raided to fund that. It already is being now. I do find it weird the way people worship it like it's some sort of sacred religious god, you say you think you are paying too much for it and you get with slander from all sides, as one poster in here says 'get your head out your arse' - If we can provide some services better for cheaper then why not? If people choose not to have children why shouldn't they get a tax break? It's bad enough working people who make that commitement for whatever reason have to subsidise the upbringing of many parents who choose to have as many children as possible without being able to afford it without throwing in education along with the welfare of them. Oh and don't forget you've got to shell out your hard earned until the age of 67/68 to bail out the Greeks as well, whilst they still retire at 61. When you get a job you set up a contract with an employer for what you are worth, then someone else who you never meet comes and takes a significent portion of that without your consent and there is nothing you can do about it, we all should be vociferous in asking questions as to how that money is spent and if it could be spent better.

Let's be honest the service you get compared to going private is not even 2nd or 3rd class it's 4th or 5th class so we are not even paying for top quality NHS treatment we're paying for what the NHS can afford to give us. No one has problems with paying for health care etc but when you are being taxed more than it would cost to get better service at a private hospital it's going to annoy people.

This is true, but still it takes pressure off the NHS, in the same way as paying to school a child frees up funds for other things.

I find it quite interesting as an exercise as people complain that they don't see what all their tax is spent on and then when they do they complain too. And before anyone thinks I'm taking the moral high ground, I'm not. There's plenty I moan about on mine.
