Cambiasso Leads City Agonisingly Close to Crucial 3 Points

Barclays Premier League
Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton 2
Naismith 57′, Upson 88′ (og)

Leicester City 2
Nugent 63′, Cambiasso 70′

Esteban Cambiasso displayed his quality throughout the match against Everton (8.07) to win his sixth man-of-the-match award this season. Cambiasso was by far and away City's outstanding performer and only after he was substituted late on was the equaliser conceded which cost Leicester all three points. Substitutes Jamie Vardy (7.25) and David Nugent (6.93) made an excellent impact with two assists and a goal respectively earning them places in the top four. Robert Huth returned after being cup-tied with a solid performance (6.97) to finish third.

There was a clear split in quality of performances across the team, with the top six and the bottom eight separated by some distance. At the bottom of the pile was Danny Simpson (4.78) whose recent form is a worry after being voted the worst player two weeks running. Andy King was only the field a matter of minutes, however Riyad Mahrez (5.13) was disappointing once again while some may argue that Mark Schwarzer (5.15) could have made a better effort to recover from his wrong-footed position for Steven Naismith's opener. The variation in the ratings left the overall team display (6.04) midway up the rankings.

It is now the fourth consecutive game where supporter confidence in Nigel Pearson has swung by more than 20%. After dropping to a seasonal low of 55% after the Aston Villa defeat, Pearson now returns to 75% thanks to a 20% rise in confidence. Many had to eat their pre-match words (including me) as Pearson's 5-4-1 system and second-half changes paid dividends, resulting in a decent match rating (6.44) for the manager.

Referee Phil Dowd is proving a lucky omen as City remain unbeaten for all games in which he has officiated. His performance against Everton (6.29) eclipses that of his previous games against Burnley and Hull and puts him seventh in the list of best refereeing performances this season. Everton however were unimpressive (4.97) and ranked fairly low on the list of opposition performances, with their 6.78-rated display at the King Power Stadium much more impressive on the opening day.

Agree with most of the ratings. Matty and Kram maybe should have scored a little higher.

Upson getting over 5 is a surprise to me. Thought he had a terrible game. Couldn't handle the pace or strength of lukaku.
