Benji Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 HENRY POISED TO SIGN NEW DEALArsenal have called a press conference for this afternoon where they are expected to confirm captain Thierry Henry has signed a new contract with the club. Henry has ended months of speculation about his future by declaring he wants to stay with the Gunners “as long as I can keep runningâ€Â. BARCA END ARSENAL'S EUROPEAN DREAM Henry, 28, has decided he wants to captain the club at their new Emirates Stadium after being convinced by Arsenal's battling performance in the Champions League final on Wednesday night. He told The Sun: "I hope to stay for as long as I can keep running. I could not face leaving the fans. They are like my family. "My team showed me I didn't have to leave. They showed me they had heart. "Everything was up in the air for a very long time. But at the end of the day, the team raised their game. "Don't get me wrong. I love Barcelona. But on Wednesday night, Arsenal showed me they had heart." Henry has only 12 months left on his current contract and there had been claims a deal with Barcelona had already been wrapped up. But the striker's passion for Arsenal shone through following the final, and he even talked in disparaging tones about some Barcelona players. CAMPBELL: DEFEAT WILL FIRE GUNNERS On the flight back to London he also dropped a huge hint when, addressing passengers in the plane over the intercom, he said: "We must pick ourselves up and make sure we come back stronger next year." Meanwhile, Robert Pires has vowed to make a decision on his future next week - after holding talks with boss Arsene Wenger on Friday. The 33-year-old Frenchman was believed by some to have played his last game for the Gunners in the Champions League final after he was only offered a 12-month contract by Wenger. But the winger still hopes he can secure a two-year deal and is not ruling out playing for the team at the Emirates Stadium next season. He said: “It is true Villarreal have offered me a two-year deal - but I have three offers. “I will make a decision next week but I am not yet a Villarreal player - that’s for sure.†Fantastic! the university im hoping to go (grades permitting) is 5 minutes from the emirates stadium, I would only pay their prices if it meant watching Henry Fantastic news for English football!

Ha ha I was thinking exactly the same when I saw his name crop up again in the paper this week. I think he's been linked with about 25 English teams in the past 5 years and never even come close to signing for any of them even though the papers lead us to believe he is. Good news about Henry, he might not be English but he's a footballing genius and it's a pleasure to have him ply his trade in our country. He's a great example to youngsters aswell in the life he leads.
Phube Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Bloody show it then. woo hoo See I can't contain my joy...
Nationwider Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Fantastic news. A great player and role model for our game. Hopefully, Arsenal can now continue their revival and, along with Man Utd and Liverpool, start to close the gap on Chelski.

You're all down between Angel and Liverpool St. though aintcha? Bit more than five minutes from the Emirates.
Knightonian Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 I like the way he said that England was the best place to play, or something to that effect.

Yer close enough though, quick walk or nip on tube, be just like walking from where we park car to the walkers What sort of stuff goes on tonight? sports etc?
Finnegan Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Tonight? Ah no it's some mad weird, end of term festival. 90% of my halls of residence is refusing to go on the grounds that it's ludicrously over-priced and terribly organised. There's a few tents there, a "rock" tent with some Radio One DJ, a chav tent, some circus tent and a "fun casino". And you're off the Picadilly line down there, so it's gunna be a couple of changes on the tube. Up here I'm literally a couple of mins on the tube. Few stops down the Picadilly.
Thracian Posted 20 May 2006 Posted 20 May 2006 The guy's lined up to make a bit of history and I hope it works out brilliantly for him. As Nationwider says, he's just a cracking example to others both in the way he conducts himself and the way he lights up almost every game he plays in.
Daggers Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 Yup, it is special that in this day and age there still exist football players who will display club loyalty...and barely expect anything in the form of huge wages...
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Benni McCarthy finally going to one of these f**king Premiership teams that have been supposedly "chasing" him for years and put us all out of our misery. Hallelujah?!?!?!?!?!
