Fryatt 5

Howard 4 Was he there??

Ok, Howard should have had two.

But if anyone can give Howard a worse rating than Fryatt.....................................

Gradel delivered good crosses all game from corners, he blew hot and cold as all wingers do his age but the signs of improvement are clearly there, bit harsh.

Yeah to be fair the corners are looking much better and he did get two assists but he lost it a lot tonight. Times he would beat his man and then put in a poor delivery too. Frustrated me tonight.

Turn up for 20 minutes against a load of rubbish and a draw is the best you can expect. Two points lost.

Martin - 6 - Didn't do a lot. Couldn't prevent the second from going in. Maybe he could of.

Gilbert - 6 - Ran forward a lot but never offered much penetration apart from those 5 minutes in the 1st half.

Hobbs - 4.5 - He shouldn't play the next game. Simple as.

Tunchev - 7 - Clearly playing way below his level.

Powell - 6 - Did his job. Comfortable. Never really tested.

Gradel - 5.5 - Gets the extra half for delivering a great ball for King. Apart from that frustrated me all night long.

King - 6 - Sideways is always easier than anything forwards. What annoyed me was that when he went forward he did well. So why go back to the sideways ball?!?!?

Oakley - 6 - More presence required. Not enough leadership for me.

Dyer - 5 - Not great.

Fryatt - 5 - Couldn't win any headers, couldn't hold up the ball, couldn't do a lot right tbh.

Howard - 6 - As usual the referee let everything go and Howard was continuously fouled and got nothing for it.

Subs:

Mattock - 6 - Did ok.

Kisnorbo - 7 - He must start the next game. Him and Tunchev at the back please.

Berner - N/a - LM? Might work. Needs looking at.

I was on here a few days ago praising us defensively and then we go and give away two of the sloppiest goals you will ever see. Far too complacent at the back for me. Hobbs must be dropped.

Totally frustrating evening against what was a poor side. I expect a lot better on Saturday.

Martin 5 What was going on with the kicking? So many short ones to our defenders. Unlucky with the first goal.

Powell 5 Ok but should have closed down their attacker for their first goal.

Hobbs 5 Some dodgy distribution but not too bad.

Tunchev 7 Should it have been him marking their attacker for the second goal? Excellent headed goal. good distribution throughout.

Gilbert 5 Not good enough today. Didn't seem to want to get forward.

Dyer 5 Pretty crap to be honest. Always seemed to come back to get the ball so was always too close to Powell. Offered very lttle going forward.

King 6 Thought he was better today and took his goal well. Still looks lightweight.

Oakley 3 Total rubbish. I gave up counting after he had given the ball away 12 times within the first 25 minutes. He huffs and puffs and hardly ever contributes a telling pass.

Gradel 5.5 Better today but he still does one good thing then one bad. Hasn't yet lived up to the hype. Corners ok but most of his crosses from open play were poor.

Fryatt 3 A performance of such anonymity that you hardly noticed he was on the pitch. Did he have a single shot?

Howard 6 Not great but again sligtly unlucky. An excellent goalline clearance prevented a goal but he probably should have scored.

mattock 6 Steady typical mattock performance.

Kisnorbo 6 Looked ok and good to see him not just hammering long aimless balls towards Howard.

Berner not on long enough but did ok.

Pearson5 Found out a bit tonight I thought. We have to learn how to break down sides like this. Credit to Walsall though they came with a plan worked hard caught us on the break and except for corners defended pretty well without resorting to the over physical approach used by Milwall. Very puzzled by the line up on our bench. Three defensive players!

Martin -7 - I don't recall anything he did too wrong, although I didn't see the second goal so i have no idea what happended there. Always looking to throw the ball out.

Gilbert -5- Was poor tonight I thought, mistake for the first and gave the ball away alot.

Hobbs -6- Not at his best, although showed a decent touch at full back.

Tunchev -8- Shaky start but got better, and was immense in the second half.

Powell -6.5- Some good runs down the left.

Gradel -6.5- Hit and miss, 2 assists.

Oakley -7- Always looking for the ball and trying to dictate the play.

King -6- Cracking header but was missing for long periods.

Dyer -6- Looked dangerous at times but bit quiet.

Fryatt -5- Hardly seen the ball, and when he did he did nothing.

Howard -5- Better all round game then Fryatt but missed two sitters,

martin - 6 let 2 goals in, but didn't do much wrong

Gilbert - 6 not as solid as usual

Hobbs - 6.5 looked alot better at right back as had the chance to come forward and put afew decent balls in the box

Tunchev - 7 started shakey but imroved as game went on

Powell - 7 supported well coming forward, pretty solid, lacks abit of pace

Gradel - 6 tries to get past players but loses the ball too much, 2 great corners tho

Oakley - 6 needs to try and run with the ball rather than passing, ball needs to be played quicker

King - 6 same as Oakley, good header tho

Dyer - 6 tried to get forward but not his best game

Fryatt - 6 afew runs, but not his best game

Howard - 6.5 put himself about, should've scored really

Mattock - 6 didn't do much when he came on

Kisnorbo - 7 ran with the ball to half way line rather than passing back and fourth, glad he's back

Martin 6

Gilbert 5 Looked injured a while before anyone seemed to realise

Powell 6 Tried to support Dyer well down the left

Hobbs 6 Kisnorbo-esque distribution

Tunchev 8 Beast

Gradel 7 May seem generous but he looked dangerous I thought, even if not on top form

Dyer 5 Never turned up, possible fatigue?

Oakley 6

King 8 Good header and seemed to be getting stuck in more today.

Fryatt 6 I give him a fair bashing on here, and whilst his work rate was very admirable tonight, his decision making is horrible. Needs to pass/shoot earlier.

Howard 4 Someone who I try to defend on here but poor today. Missed a simple tap-in and a couple of excellent headed opportunities.

Mattock 5 Not a massive impact

Kisnorbo 6 Another who I think is on the whole over-rated, but dare I say it, his passing actually seemed decent tonight  . Oh well, it'll never last  .

Berner - Not enough time for a rating.

Martin 5 - Hendo please.

Gilbert 6 - Not up to standards tonight but still did ok.

Powell 6 - Solid as ever, supported the attack fairly well.

Tunchev 8 - Solid as ever, Glad to see him score.

Hobbs 6 - Looked better when he went to rb.

Gradel 6 - Blew hot and cold, but 2 key assists, I think he needs a goal for himself.

Dyer 6 - Some good wing play but that's about it.

Oakley 7 - Always looked to do stuff, got a lot more stuck in.

King 6 - A good headed goal, but a lack of pace enabled Ricketts to put in a cross for their first.

Fryatt 5 - Looked very determined against his former club, but nothing came off.

Howard 5 - Should've had 2 goals.

Mattock 6 - Good to see him back, looked ok.

Kisnorbo 7 - Was very solid, even his passing was good tonight!

I agree generally with your scores

and I def. agree with dropping Hobbs.

EDIT: Although I must admit he did look better at right back.

Martin 5 (Definitely at fault for their second goal and might have done better for the first. With Walsall's second all our players drifted left for his kick and he aimed it straight into the heart of a group of four Walsall players in the centre of the field, thus conceding possession unnecessarily. Showed some decent handling at times but a slip near the end caused by rushing might easily have proved disastrous had Walsall been showing any ambnition by then and had ny of their forwards been alert to a slip.

Gilbert 5 (Not impressed. Arguably at fault for both goals and so often delayed his passes momentarily leaving Gradel trapped up a blind alley. Hardly ever sought to make an overlap or to get forward dangerously and his defending, including at the far post for their first goal was way below what we've come to expect).

Hobbs 5 (Worst I've seen him play. Ponderous and his distribution was awful. They scored from two simple diagonal crosses into the heart of the penalty area where strikers were given free headers).

Tunchev 6 (Welcome and well taken goal on the near post made up for a generally sub-standard performance for reasons mentioned above and because of some indifferent clearances when not under great pressure).

Powell 6 (Steady, reliable but of no great consequece).

Gradel 7 (Two pinpoint assists from his corners, created much of the threat we did have by persisting in trying things despite being closely marked and was largely responsible for us salvaging a point despite the mistakes and misjudgements).

Oakley 5.5 (It must have been 15 minutes before he made an accurate pass, let alone a telling one. Improved thereafter but not enough to play anything like the captain's role needed).

King 7 (At fault with others for the first goal but scored a vital headed equaliser by ghosting in on the far post - something he did so often in lower grade football. Also was one of the few players who consistently passed the ball crisply and accurately to team-mates and thus setting numerous moves in motion. My lad said he hadn't noticed him so I made mention to him of every time his broke a Walsall move up and launched one of ours and it was so noticeable that he had to admit he just didn't realise how much he was doing. It's just a pity he was used so defensively again in the main.).

Dyer 5.5 (Showed brief moments of brilliance but was nothing like his best again, partly, because of the lack of movement and support around him).

Fryatt 5 (Disappointing. Rarely threatened goal but also did so little to link play or make space for others).

Howard 5 (What you see is what you get. He's never going to be making darting runs across and behind defenders but he did win his share of flick-ons and did get into positions from which he might or should have scored but sadly suffered the ignominy of missing two fairly simple chances, particularly the header from about 10 yards).

Subs: Kisnorbo 6.5 (How welcome was he when he took the field. Slipped straight into his close-marking, no nonsense defensive style and looked a class apart in that respect. He even passed the ball out of defence. It was right he should wait his chance to return but his presence was much needed tonight and he will surely now partner Tunchev as first choice.

Mattock: Not enough action to award a mark.

Pearson 4 (All the factors which made us such a forceful team arlier in the season were rarely in evidence tonight. Our fast closing down, our slick passing and moving the impish and enthusiastic support were all missing and so was the willingness to try things, Gradel excepted. We looked laboured and uncertain.

Walsall weren't a good side but Pearson was negative enough to field four sodding defenders among the five subs which would have been disappointing away but was totally unnecessary at home. We're also becoming predictable so that opponents can easily anticipate our approach and counter it. For the first time tonight I thought that, if we carry on like this and if Pearson continues picking such a negative bench, we'll have no chance of promotion)

Martin - 6. Rarely troubled apart from the two goals.

Gilbert - 6. Good going forward, not so great defensively

Hobbs - 5. Distribution was shocking at times.

Tunchev - 6. Lost Ricketts badly for their second, though made up for that with the equaliser.

Powell - 6. Solid as ever.

Gradel - 7* Purely for the assists. His crossing and shooting were abysmal at times but at least he didn't hide.

Oakley - 4. Descended to the levels of last season. Not captaincy material. :(

King - 5. He becomes more like a poor man's Gareth Williams by the week. Apart from his goal, his creative contribution was zero.

Dyer - 5. Not one of his better games.

Howard - 5. Never found his range all night.

Fryatt - 5. A surprisingly subdued performance against his old club.

Mattock - 5. A somewhat rusty return.

Kisnorbo - 6. A decent contribution. Should pair up with Tunchev from now on.

Posted

Martin 4 (Rubbish, would have backed Henderson to save both of them, ridiculous attempt on the first goal)

Gilbert 5 (Good overlapping but sloppy in possession)

Hobbs 4.5 (Even more careless than Gilbert)

Tunchev 5 (Eaten alive by Ibehre and Ricketts)

Powell 5.5 (Solid and steady, but not enough overlapping or support for Dyer, will be more useful in tougher away games)

Gradel 6 (Crap for a lot of the time but equally dangerous in patches, finally a few decent crosses)

Oakley 5 (Looked lost at times)

King 4.5 (The goal doesn't cloud a terribly slow and predictable performance)

Dyer 5 (Nowhere near his best, suffered from lack of overlap and support)

Fryatt 4 (Completely anonymous)

Howard 4 (Useful at times but should have had a hattrick, no excuses)

Mattock 6 (Offered more than Powell in attack, will get better with match time)

Kisnorbo 7 (Thank god he's back)

Berner N/A
