Flynny Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Or: is pushing more people through university leading to a sense of reverse snobbery and anti-intellectualism amongst those who don't get that far? Or is a certain person just a glorious one-off? I don't want to turn into America where things like beauty and knowledge are sacrificed on the altar of tradition and small-town values.
Bert Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Maybe it's people thinking they're something they're not.
The People's Hero Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Maybe it's people thinking they're something they're not. Example?
Corky Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Example? Phube. Always talks out of his Arsenal.
Bert Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Example? I thought I'd throw something controversial in the mixer for shits and giggles.
Phube Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 University should be for the ACADEMIC elite... not plebs who get (no offense meant... ) two E's at A-Level and still go! I don't care what race, religion, social/economic class etc... But to try and get 50% of people into Uni is stupid... bring back Poly's!! Then only the top 10% (academically) should go to uni, the rest should go elsewhere!
Flynny Posted 23 December 2008 Author Posted 23 December 2008 I thought I'd throw something controversial in the mixer for shits and giggles. If you don't watch out I shall strike you with my cane next time I pass you in my carriage. Its a good point actually, it does happen to an extent. I'm secretly terrified I'll suddenly stop liking football and take up croquet or something instead. Some students do lose touch with their roots but I don't want to be one of them, and I resent the implication yesterday (not from you I don't mean) that carrying on in education a few more years somehow makes you out of touch or part of a demonised intellectual elite.

It should work a treat.

The People's Hero Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Me and Alex were just ordinary folk then we went to uni and then BAM! a few weeks ago we went to a Bob Dylan art exhibition. We've changed man. We're so affected. So out of touch with the plebs.
Flynny Posted 23 December 2008 Author Posted 23 December 2008 I bet you don't even think Oasis are the most talented band going anymore, you pair of twats.
The People's Hero Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 I bet you don't even think Oasis are the most talented band going anymore, you pair of twats. We pretend to like stuff which is cooler, depending on what NME say. Don't commoners listen to Oasis and stuff?
Alexikokopops Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?
The People's Hero Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon? Racist. Oh but we're upper class now, so that's ok. Whatto!
Flynny Posted 23 December 2008 Author Posted 23 December 2008 We pretend to like stuff which is cooler, depending on what NME say.Don't commoners listen to Oasis and stuff? I don't know anymore. I'm in a state of flux due to what are known as 'posh cooties'. Initial symptoms include pretension, bad-breath, and dirty clothes. In the more advanced stages you physically become Stephen Fry for 5 hours a day.

Lillehamring Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon? i'd certainly be interested in a grey poup, but on what?
Guest Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 i'd certainly be interested in a grey poup, but on what? Toast. It goes with anything.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 I was at university when Oasis first broke, and let me tell you, all the public school kids LOVED them. It was only when the proles latched on that they went to shit DISCUSS

Monk Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 What on god's green earth are you on about Flynny? Started a little too early on the Mulled Wine?
The People's Hero Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 He's a pseudo-intellectual douchebag.
Jay Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 I am a bit of a rebel, I like to break from the norm I never went to Uni but am a major player in the field of wanky music cliques
