FOX_TROT_07 Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...ootie-news.html LEICESTER are closing in on £1.5million-rated Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson, 22. City plan to fund the move by flogging Andy King to Aston Villa for £2.5m. The Gills signed Canadian international Jackson for £150,000 in January 2008. Leicester are also mulling over a £750,000 move for Norwich striker Sammy Clingham. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Made his name in an FA cup game, 1.5 mil.............god this reminds me of DJ. Good thing it's likely to be bull shit.
Filbert_Ross Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 we have a framed picture of him in his Rushden days in our flat!!!
Joe. Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Wouldn't interest me in the slightest if we had to get rid of King for it.
ronnup Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Is it just me or have they pulled all of that from Football Rumours?
ozleicester Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Doesnt add up for me... 2.5 for King (?) then spend 1.5 on lesser quality Jackson... please explain?
eaststandtom Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 sell andy king? no thanks if city wouldnt match wba for simon cox a league 1 player they aint going to pay 1.5 mill for a league 2 player
artursteppe Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Doesnt add up for me... 2.5 for King (?) then spend 1.5 on lesser quality Jackson... please explain? People have got to be avin a larf ere. If it is true ( and it can't be of course ) that Villa want King for £2.5m then snap their hands off. They would be mad! Simeon Jackson I like, he could be real quality. Yes, he looks a bit like DJ ( I look like Brad Pitt ), but that means nothing. 1.5m is a bit steep for Jackson, although the ratios ( Jackson 60% of King value ), are well in our favour. I could live with that. I think given time Jackson will be worth much more as a player than King!

We wouldn't pay 2m for Cox so why would we pay 1.5m for Jackson? No way I'd be happy about this unless he was 3rd/4th choice and we picked him up for 500k or less
artursteppe Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Doesnt add up for me... 2.5 for King (?) then spend 1.5 on lesser quality Jackson... please explain? I've just checked the 'Sun' link. It says Jackson is a 1.5m rated striker. 1.5m is Gillingham's valuation - not the amount we would pay. No way would we pay that much for someone unproven. Pearson would spend no more than 500k, maybe plus add-ons, at the most! King 2.5m as well? Clouds and cuckoos are circling above our heads!

I.e 750,000 up front then the other 750,000 depending on how he does, goals, promotion etc..

Weren't Villa after Delph for considerably more than that? Perhaps MON thinks that if he can get King for 2.5 Delph would still be in his pocket -bargain.

Good shout, but I genuinely think if we could get 2.5m for King it would be absolutely marvelous for us. Then we keep Joe who is much better potential than King, and have proper money to spend for a striker or two. Bring it on! King would not get in my first team next season, maybe the bench.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Isn't Clingan ment to be a midfielder? Strange how all the rumors about Villa have actually come up in the sun today . I don't believe them personally.
Fox92 Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 I know that this lad is playing for a side like Gillingham (no disrespect to any Gills) and is not going to be good enough for the championship but at least Nigel is looking at a striker. Obviousley, we are in a desperate need for a striker or two but I cannot think of any striker (and I mean a proven goalscorer in the coca-cola championship) that we will be able to afford and will score goals. I mean, its not like Norwich, Southampton and Charlton have quality strikers although Marek Sagnowsi would be a good shout. So, is this what it leads to? A legue 2 (now league 1) forward? However, Sheffield United did it with Jamie Ward who joined from Chesterfield and he scored a few goals, I think. His record at Rushden looks good with 40 goals in 88 games and 21 goals in 59 games for Gillingham. We need another striker but will he be good enough? Not proven in the championship, so I just don't know. We could take a gamble on him like Reading did with the likes of Doyle and Shane Long etc but with taking a gamble, we could loose alot of money. Without splashing some real money, I don't think we will get a 'quality 20+ goals a season striker'. I can think of Marcus Tudgay and Marek Sagnowski who score but not that many, but it may be enough if the midfielder can chip in and we get goals from all over the pitch. David Kitson? In other words, I am not to sure.

Your spot on, I mean King has the passing ability, a great first touch and can finish a ball but I am just scared because he will not be able to compete physically with other midfields. So, 2.5million for me King would be sold as well!

Mattock better potential than King? dont agree with that at all. King has HUGE potential I was hoping we'd be linked with better strikers to be honest, 1.5 mil? don't think so.
Collymore Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 He likes to go to the keepers right on a penalty. Does look like DJ mkII
artursteppe Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 He likes to go to the keepers right on a penalty. Does look like DJ mkII He looks like DJ, but that is where it ends. This boy moved to Canada, to live with extended family, from he Carribean. Then aged 15 he moved to England to live with his Great Aunt whom he'd never met because he wanted to be a professional footballer. Started with Gillingham on trial, they got rid - now that would have knocked the stuffing out of most young lads - but he then played non league football, then went to Dagenham and Redbridge, then the Gills bought him back for 150k. I have had my eye on him for some time. I like him:- he is hungry, fast, determined to succeed, and there is something about him that could just make him a future star. He fits everything Nigel usually goes for. Just on those who seem to think you have to be proven at a level for us to buy them. First trust NP. Then remember Kevin Keagan, turned away by S****horpe, then what happened. Neil Lennon came to us from Crewe. Muzzy from a reserve team. More recently both the Peterborough strikers who got twenty goals plus last year went to them from non league clubs. I am not sure how many leagues they were promoted to play for Peterborough. The list could go on for miles. NP ain't got anything wrong yet! P.S. Apparently Radio Kent have today said that Leicester City have offered Gillingham 1.5m for Simeon Jackson.
