Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 I want Jackson here, I think he could be a worthwhile signing. But sell King??? For £2.5 million??? To fund this??? IS EVERYBODY ON CRACK?!?!?
philayres200 Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 I want Jackson here, I think he could be a worthwhile signing. But sell King??? For £2.5 million??? To fund this??? IS EVERYBODY ON CRACK?!?!? Fascinating! I have missed something with King. He is a powder puff, sorry, i do not want to be too hard on him, but he is definitely a 'lightweight'. Paces himself too much through a game, leaving others to do the work, but then to be fair he does step it up a bit in the last 15 minutes of a match, because he's rested for most of the first 75 mins. Scores the odd goal, which is good, and that includes some with his head. He ain't a bad player, but I can't imagine him ever being worth more than £2.5m, so if it comes along, let's grab it while we can. I know the fans are split about 50/50 on this, the same as ever. We will see which ones are right in the end! What we should do with the money if it comes is another topic!

There's obviously still psyhical development to come, I think practically everyone on here bar a few would admit that his prescence isn't exactly aggressive. His style of play doesn't demand that he runs around like a clueless gimp, but that he can control play with a decent range of passing, good touch, and vision. £2.5 is also a laughable figure, not because it's too high, but because Delph, who played in the same league, and had arguably less impact on it than King, is being touted to move for upwards of £6 million. It's unlikely that City will find a decent replacement, with a birght future, who already has a very good seasnon's worth of experience under his belt for less than that £2.5 figure.
Molson Canadian Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 not sure this is right move, as far as canadian strikers go he's well down the pecking order for the canadian national squad....he is young but i dont think he's the right fit if we wanted a canadian striker we should have made a bid for Ali Gerba we could have got him for free he has joined up with toronto fc this season. I dont even think he's in the national pool of selected strikers right now and is not representing canada at the gold cup. wrong move for leicester
Lesta Legend Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Ali Gerba.............. I dont even think he's in the national pool of selected strikers right now and is not representing canada at the gold cup. Ali gerba the MKdons flop last year FYI Jackson played on the 10th of July for Canada
Salieri Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Looking at the youtube clips ( ) he looks like a decent prospect, pacey and a good finisher. With a shortage of options around, he may be worth a gamble but obviously for considerably less than £1.5 million. As for selling King, i'd be surprised if Villa were in for him and even so, i wouldn't want him to leave.
Molson Canadian Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Ali gerba the MKdons flop last year FYI Jackson played on the 10th of July for Canada Ali Gerba was not that bad for the dons 10 goals in 24 apperances, i was not aware jackson was in the canada squad for the gold cup, i'm sure he's in because hume is out....he is a good prospect but i'm not sure if he would be able to make it at the championship level also i think the transfer fee is a bit too much
Legend_in_blue Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 It seems to me MM doesn't have any cash. His talk is worth now't. As for King, he isn't premiership quality. Not yet anyway.

A very good point, about delph, well overpriced. Even more so, when you consider that Bolton got Mark Davies, for a million, a real snip, IF he can stay injury free, for any length of time.
Babylon Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 It seems to me MM doesn't have any cash. His talk is worth now't. His talk is smart. People believe what they want... him saying there is £10m to spend might mean £10m on players to you. To me it means £10m on players and squad wages, the whole lot.
morris1234 Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 the reality is 1) we wont get a proven goalscorer for this level or any higher for decent money, unless you fancy doing a quick whip around at work once or twice every few minutes for the rest of your life trying to make 4or 5mill plus, then think again. and 2) how come there are a few posters (wont name them as there posts are evidence enough )that think players cant change and cant step up and do well, they are automatically going to be crap judged on non existant evidence or the fact they play in a lower league, and even if there is evidence they still ridicule it! "make upa your minda!!!!" simeon jackson, good potential, decent attitude, can finish! if pearson thinks hes good enough! i with him and will give SJ or any player for that matter a chance until ive seen him numerous times and not say hes crap after listening on the radio or going to one game where he scores a hat trick, make out hes the next henry, then attend the next game and have a go because hes not consistant! another morris rant OVERRRRRR!
Ozwin Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 I'd rather be giving lower league players a chance than be giving Premier League no hopers a free ride.

Joe. Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 If we wouldn't pay £2m for Cox then there's no chance we'll pay £1.5m for Jackson.
Collymore Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Based on what? skin tone? Well if were trying to sign a big white centre forward who is slow and wins things in the air I would call him Howard mkII, would you have mentioned skin tone then? The guy has very similar attributes to a player we already have in our squad, and they happen to have the same skin colour, big deal.
morris1234 Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 If we wouldn't pay £2m for Cox then there's no chance we'll pay £1.5m for Jackson. this did cross my mind but i think cox hurt pearson a lot when he was messing us about, we shall see! btw, you wouldnt have wanted to be simon cox on that plane to slovenia would you! 'oh hi nige, no hard feelings about messing you about...........................nige...........what are you doing to my life jacket.....'

To me it means £10m on players and squad wages, the whole lot. Exactly, absolutely, definitely, for a fact, for certain, for sure, in every respect, indeed, just, literally, no mistake, on the dot, on the money, on the nail, on the nose, precisely, quite, right, specifically, square, strictly, the ticket, totally, truly, unequivocally, unerringly, utterly, wholly!
davieG Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 All bullshit according to:# Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has dismissed the rumours linking striker Simeon Jackson with a big money move to Leicester City. Reports emerged in a national newspaper earlier this week which indicated the Championship club were preparing a £1.5 million bid for the 22-year-old, who scored 21 goals for the Gills last season. But speaking after his side's 4-2 pre-season victory against Dartford, Stimson made it clear the club had not received an approach from anyone for Jackson. "We've had nothing at all from Leicester, it's just paper talk", he said. "We don't want to lose our better players but at the end of the day every player has got his price I suppose. "No one has made an enquiry to me and I don't think the chairman has had any phone calls which is pleasing because he's someone who even in these pre-season games would be vital to us because of the way he plays." Jackson was linked with Aston Villa and Ipswich last season but neither amounted to anything tangible. Stimson, who bought the striker for £150,000 from Rushden & Diamonds in January 2008, did not believe the speculation would affect his game. He said: "I'd be amazed if it went to his head because like I've always said, the kid is a model pro. I don't think it will faze him at all, if anything it will just probably give him another pat on the back and say 'people recognise I'm worth some money' and rightly so. I won't mention it to him, I've told him if anyone makes any enquiry he will be the first to know." Jackson is in the United States preparing for Canada's Gold Cup quarter-final against Honduras on Saturday. http://www.kentnews.co.uk/kent-news/Stimso...aspx?news=sport
Jon25747 Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 No bid made. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11712_5434439,00.html Gillingham boss Mark Stimson insists there has been no offer from Leicester City for striker Simeon Jackson. Reports had claimed that Championship side Leicester had lodged a bid of £1.5million for Jackson, who is currently with the Canada squad at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. However, Stimson has confirmed there have been no enquiries for a player who scored 21 goals en route to the Gills securing promotion to League One last season. "We've had nothing at all from Leicester, it's just paper talk," said Stimson. "We don't want to lose our better players, but at the end of the day every player has got his price I suppose. "No-one has made an enquiry to me and I don't think the chairman has had any phone calls which is pleasing because he's someone who even in these pre-season games would be vital to us because of the way he plays." Stimson believes the talk will not affect his star forward, who has already helped his country through to the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup. He added: "I'd be amazed if it went to his head because like I've always said, the kid is a model pro. I don't think it will faze him at all, if anything it will just probably give him another pat on the back and say 'people recognise I'm worth some money' and rightly so. wallin1704 Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 i trust nige and cant see the problem with signing jackson (from what i've seen looks pacey and a good finisher) agree with the post who said about people saying players are only good enough at a certain level. Yes he's unproven at this level so let him prove his worth! ok we've been burnt in the past (tricky trev, junior lewis) but we've also had players like izzet, lennon, guppy, elliott and like i say i trust nige and his staff to get it right with signings who knows he could turn out to be the next lita given half a chance!
