Just to be straight on this I want to clarify a few points. Never have I once slagged off the players or Rodgers in this thread merely the impact of playing a full strength team in the cup. Perhaps it would have made no difference in the tough matches v Man City and Liverpool I just felt a day off for the first team players at Goodison would have been my preferred choice. Tonights match clearly showed that we have a reserve team that's half decent and I am still confused as to why some of these players weren't used at Goodison to give the other guys a rest.

The point that I was making was that anything other than points and performances in the league this season is unconsequential when you are chasing a champions League spot. At the end of the season if it comes down to a choice of needing 1 point to finish top 4 or having our name on the Carabao Cup there really is only one answer to this question. Id love to think we can achieve both objectives this season but the sheer importance and value of finishing in the top 4 far outweighs the cups

So many people on here missing the point.......I've never concerned myself with Man City or Liverpool's results to see if they've won or lost I always look at Spurs/Wolves/Man U and Sheff Utd and pray they've dropped points....always have and always will......I've never quite believed that we are as great as people have made out.

Irrelevant to me if we finish 2nd or 4th but dropping down to 5th would be a disaster. A couple of weeks ago we were 14 points clear of 5th....now it's 9....by the end of the season if Wolves are above us by 2 points.....is this still a good result?

We've gone all out to get to the Semi Final of the Carabao Cup and personally I think it's cost us in recent games with fatigue setting in. Many of you may disagree but I'd personally swap the Semi of the League Cup for 2 more points v Norwich and 1 against City and Liverpool but we've made it clear that our objective is to go for a cup. We simply don't have the squad depth to expect to play our strongest team week in week out and still get results. I can never get anywhere near as excited about the League Cup v Premier League....the Premier League means so much more. If we were mid table I'd understand going for a cup but with top 4 a realistic possibility surely that's far more important than the League Cup which merely gets you a place in the Europa League. If we were to win the League Cup and finish the season 6th getting into the Europa League we'd all be desperately disappointed yet we seem hell bent on winning a cup we've won 3 times before and has little to no prestige. Top 4 is priority for me.....by a million miles. Discuss.

Not much positive can be said about that 45 minutes. I know Liverpool are World Champions but we're making it far to easy for them. We need to make sure our tackles win the ball and we are allowing them all the time they want on the ball....add to that just like at Man City we are not getting hold of the ball ourselves in advanced areas because we're to scared to take chances.... shocking

Anyone considered that their players were fresh after a week's rest whilst most of ours played midweek and were a bit knackered.... certainly looked that way to me

Missed 2 years of warming the bench. Thinks he's a lot better than he actually is. Mahrez is what we made him...he'd be no where right now if it wasn't for us. Brilliant today but was to blame for Kanes opener.... Has a temptation to go for balls he's not entitled to go for which leaves him out of position.... By the time he got back to Kane he could only push him which helped him score. Don't get me wrong though the guys been immense but he just needs to work on his decision making when the balls come into our half
