A drop of Wherry is very nice but in this hot and dry weather a cold lager is more desirable.

Some of the villages above Trieste are nice for a wander. Gostilna Brin and Ristorante Carso are two good places to eat I remember. There are also the 'osmica' which do good local food. Quite interesting to see a south slavic language in Italian villages, hard to imagine it was right on the border of a country that stretched all the way down to southern Macedonia. In Trieste itself Buffet da Pepi is a bit touristy now but famous for large portions of sausage and sauerkraut and frothy beers. Good fun.

Rarely going to games now I didn't realise how many pubs I used to go to have closed down. Sad!

Such a great part of the world. Trieste is one of my favourite cities and upper Friuili is so beautiful and really less touristy than much of Alpine Italy. Piran and Koper in Slovenia is quite nice, and the whole of Istria. There's an amazing church in Hrastovlje on the way to the coast.
